Hello everyone, and welcome back to Phasers Set to Stun, where we continue to show our love for everything Star Trek in this ongoing series from a film by podcast which focuses on every quadrant of the expanding universe of Trek by covering television, animation, movies, directors, and much more.

In this episode, we are going to continue our Trek Spectations where we're going to share our expectations for the upcoming slate of Star Trek projects, both rumored and confirmed. We're gonna be talking about possibly coming soon to theaters, streaming platforms, as well as merchandise at other cool events happening across the universe. All right, let's get started, gentlemen. I know we're gonna be talking about this one in our next episode, a Phaser Setistan but we obviously need to mention it because it is in the world of Star Trek, and of course that is Star Trek Section thirty one that will be premiering on Friday, January twenty fourth on Paramount Plus, so rather really soon after this episode, so we'll be talking about it shortly. I know this is a what an espionage focused style film? That does that sound right? What I think this is gonna be?

1:53 Yeah, you know, that's that's what they've been calling. It's something different for Star Trek. Yeah, it seems like, I mean, Section thirty one is kind of like they're their spy division almost teams, like there's aspects of like a heist, like it feels like there's flavors of Ocean's eleven in there. Yeah. Yeah, And I know Michiel Yaal coming back playing Philippa again, who we know came from Star Trek Discovery, so it should be quite interesting. I think the trailer seems still kind of odd to me. It looks like something different for Star Trek, but hey, I'm open for it. That's what they're that's what they're wanting. Actually, yeah, yep. So I'm I'm willing to see it. And also during when I was looking for the research, because we had mentioned we were weren't certain about the time frame on this, I completely forgot that on her last appearance on Discovery she went back in time with the Guardian of Forever and we never did find out where she went. So that's where this this time difference, This takes place between Star Trek and Star Trek the next generation, which really is on explored territory for them.

2:52 Wow, that could be quite interesting in my opinion. Yeah, there's some some hints that I've seen without spoiling too much, I know that there's some kind of mention of a connection with Captain Rachel Garrett. Yeah, Yesterday's Enterprise, and it looks like there's hints of like a seeing Georgio's family, like Georgia in the past, the mom and dad and things like that. So that'll be interesting to see how this hops around. Yeah, and you know something we mentioned recently on our the motion pictures that the Daltons, you know, we never really saw them again at Star Trek, and I just read that one of the characters is a Dalton in this series, so I'm yeah, I'm interested to see those.

3:32 Yeah, if you look in the Catha AMDB, so it's not giving away anything. There is a young actress that is playing Georgia, so obviously they're going to go back to see her past. So I'll be interested to see where they plan to go from this. Like obviously, if it does well enough, there could be a sequel to it, obviously, but yeah, is there something else that opens up into Does it have any kind of connections to things like Starfleet Academy? Be interesting to see. Well, I know the producers had stated that, you know, the section thirty one that we saw in Discovery is very different from the section thirty one that we saw in d Space nine, and that this movie should explain why and how those differences came to be. Good, good, definite think the areas of Starchek that needs to be explored. So that's that's interesting. I'm excited for that.

4:15 So something something different, something new, we need that exactly. Yeah, the franchise will benefit from doing something like that, I think. Yeah, Oh, I think so. And you know, this is great because you know, being the first streaming movie. I hope there's more coming. I hope they start trying new and different things like this, and I hope it's a good film. I'm looking forward to. Say, do you too. I wanted to be successful because that means we could get a lower decks film. Yes, please let this be successful. Everybody out there watch this, please please. Well that leads U s Gott. You kind of mentioned we're gonna talk about next and that's Starfleet Academy. That's the next series that Paramount Plus is going to give us beyond strange new worlds. Obviously, I don't think we're gonna see this till next year, maybe even twenty twenty six.

4:56 Yeah, probably, I would say that too, very early twenty two twenty six, Yeah, probably January, my guess. I think. So. I know they've already greenlit a second season, so obviously they see something in it, which is good. You know, I'm kind of odd that the season's not even out and you're a green leanding the second season. Yeah, so they obviously see something in it that you know, we don't know anything about yet. I know they've got a big cast already on it, and Holly Hunter and I know Robert Paccardo both have joined the cast of this, So I'm very intrigued of what's going to happen with this series. So they started filming this what in March of twenty twenty three or August summer twenty fourth, somewhere. In that neighborhood they've been working on for a little while. Yeah, and Jonathan Franks is directing episodes. The first two episodes of the series is directed by the producer himself, Alex Kurtzman.

5:47 No, nice, Okay, cool? That should Yeah, I mean. They should have a broad appeal, I think to a variety of Star Trek fans, because, like I mentioned, Robert Priccardo would appeal to Voyager fans obviously, first contact fans, prodigy. I think he's got a toe dipped in that, yes. And then you've also got connections obviously with Discovery you've got Mary Wiseman, take Nataro odin Fair coming back. And then as far as big names, you've also got Tatiana Maslani and Paul Giamati. So they're not skimping on the Star Star telling. With No, they're not. And I think it was smart bringing in Robert Paccardo. I mean, one, I loved his character, I'm glad to see him. But you know, two, with this being a continuation of Discovery, there were a lot of Trekkis and fans that didn't really give Discovery a chance or kind of were turned off on it, and hopefully this his appearance in the series might bring some of them to watch it and hopefully like it.

6:44 Yeah, so too, we shall see. I know it's ten episodes, I believe is the length of the season, so we should have a quite a lot to watch. Yeah, that is for sure. Well, we haven't really gotten much of the Academy of Life a few, you know, Crusher episodes and then things like that, so it'll be good to see how they kind of leap into this if it has to like infuse some new blood in the franchise pretty literally, and there's different places where it could split her off. Into We've talked about that before. Yeah, they've really wanted to do this. I mean, how many times did they mentioned they were going to do a starpleet Academy series over the years, so films, So finally they were getting Finally we're getting it. Yeah, it's about time. Speaking about about time, I cannot wait that we're going to get Strange New Worlds season three.

7:31 They've not given us a date yet, assuming it's gonna be anywhere between April and May. I'm thinking I hope so, because I'm very excited to see where this goes because we led they left us with the cliffhanger on season two with battling the Gorn, so you know, some of our heroes were captured by them, and we got the lovely introduction of Montgomery Scott played by Martin Quinn, who did a fantastic job and I cannot wait to see what else he. Brings his character. I noticed that he's been promoted to cast, so uh, probably be in every episode. Good he needs to be because he was awesome. Yeah. Well, I mean and in Engineering, we only got the taste of Carol Kane. Yeah, she's coming back, super.

8:13 I had also seen that, so season three is obviously coming back. It sounds like they have started production on season four. Yeah, yeah, that's right, which is I. Mean, that's that's great news. It's great to hear that we have, you know, more to come when we're anticipating the next big thing. Now, this has been a long time coming. It's been two years now since season two. Because of the strikes that they had, this is delayed hits, So I mean that was one heck, of a cliffhanger that we got with it. I love that. So this we're still yeah, we're still hanging. I can't wait to see what they do to solve that because I have no idea. You know, they've really showed very little or given very little about what this series is going to be, what the new season is going to be, surprisingly considering how close we are to the to release.

8:57 But then they did that with season two. I mean they didn't announce the release date for the first episode until like, what was it, like a month before it it was you know, it's not surprising. Yeah, And what did you say as the release date of this They didn't say yet. We don't know this season, Okay, No, we just know it's coming this year sometime. Yeah, hopefully sooner than later. It's all that. Well, yeah, and hopefully they give us a little bit of I mean, obviously they give us a little bit of warning. But I'd kind of like to brush up on where we left off with last season, maybe without going back through the entire season, but just to kind of, you know, refresh before we kind of leap back into the action. And I'm curious. I know Reese Darby is joining the cast as a guest, so I'm curious to who he's going to portray. I don't know. They haven't announced or said anything about his character.

9:38 Some caves too, which is kind of a nice you know, let it be a surprise because. They haven't really said I mean, they really haven't said anything. I went and did research to see if anything was said, you know, new bits about this next season, and everything I found I mentioned on the last track expectations he did, so you know, they are really keeping this secret good. I'm glad. I don't want anything ruined for me. I love surprises, Like when Scotty popped up, I'm like, what, no, because I didn't see that coming, you know. I love that. Yeah, really well. And they're doing a good job of just like slowly kind of opening up the tap right and not flooding it with all these familiar characters. I think they're doing a fantastic job with the writing going in and do territories for sure, which we talked about before. But it's it's great to know there's another Star Trek series where you're eagerly anticipating its return and just knowing that you're gonna get great stuff.

10:33 Absolutely now the next one we're going to talk about. Nothing really much has been mentioned about it, but I'm super excited about it because it sounds like it's gonna be the first live action comedy for Star Treks, and that's Toddy Newsom's series that she is working on with Justin Seaman, so I'm curious on what this is going to be about. I saw a few comments that she had made from SDCC where they were being interviewed, and they said it is going to take place in the twenty fifth century, which is you know where Picard takes place, obviously, And she says, all I can share with you is that we keep writing it, and we keep turning things in and they keep saying please keep writing. So as long as they allow us to do that, and they don't say stop, close your computers and go home, we'll continue making it. And yeah, as long as they don't tell me please shut your lot in the sea, I will keep working on it. It's been such a joy.

11:27 I love Justin Steinman with all my heart. I can't wait to hopefully keep doing it. So she seems pretty excited about it, and I love her from lower decks, so I cannot wait to see what she is going to bring to us and start trying. Yeah, there's gonna be a lot of anticipation for that. You know, everybody loves Lower Decks and I think this series is going to be great whatever it is. Yeah, I mean not just her performance obviously, because she was fantastic in her character, but the contribution she's made to the show. I mean, if you ever watched The Ready Room with uh Oh Whedon, Whenever she's a guest shows has a lot of passion for it. Everybody talks about how big a fan she is, so you know that she has the chops. Hopefully there's characters from Lower Decks that can come and say, Hi, it would be great.

12:16 To see hope. Yeah. But the only the only auto tip that they give is that gave it says. The show has been described as a workplace comedy in the style of the office and parks and recreation. Can you imagine that in the world of Star Trek. That's that's that's shouting for a live action ransom debut. Yeah, say, you know they will. They have to, they have to, they have to. There's no way, there's no way. I cannot wait for that. So yeah, listeners, I hope you're just excited. Well for that one, I'm sure that's far down the road. We're probably going to see that through maybe twenty twenty seven, but who knows, who knows? But that cannot wait, cannot wait. It's good to see Star Trek is alive and well, do you guys agree?

12:59 I agree, yes, yeah. Because there was a timeframe that we were losing Star Trek and it was almost dead in the water. So I'm glad to see that it's coming back strong. So listeners, please watch this stuff so it's successful and Paramount keeps making more. Please we need it. Yeah, lots of great ideas, lots of great stories create, lots of creative people behind the scenes, they're doing a fantastic job. Who knows what they're going to come up with next, You know there's gonna be I'm sure there's a lot more ideas coming. I think it's mentioning like I myself. I've got to admit I haven't watched that much of Prodigy, just because it hasn't seemed to fall into my radar. But I think based on what we've said about giving things a chance, I think it's really worthwhile to dive into it.

13:45 It is you. If you're a fan of Classic Trek, obviously there's your you know, your comfort food. They always go back to or had the classic franchises and movies and whatnot. But give New Trek a chance whenever you can, because it only helps to further the franchise. Yeah, and talking of Prodigy, you know that it was really good. I love that second season, But then I was a big fan of Voyager. They didn't They haven't said whether they're going to do a third season, and we don't know. They haven't. No one's have mentioned anything, but it is possible and they did leave it open. I hope they do get a third season ready too. Yeah, season two is fantastic. When I agree with you, we need some more of that. I'm glad Netflix saved it. I really I am too. Yeah, so good. All right, Well, let's dive into the world of merchandise and events that's coming up with Star Trek. One of the things that I found interesting that I found was Universal fan Fest Nights that runs through April twenty fifth through May eighteenth.

14:41 On their website, they say, are you ready to boldly go where no one has gone before? It is Universal Fan fest nights, which is kind of similar to their Halloween Horror nights that they do like in the Fall. Apparently they've got some kind of themed immersive journey aboard the USS Enterprise. D oh so yes, so it's the next generation crew. So clearly this is going to be something to behold and I cannot wait to see what that is. Oh yeah, that sounds fantastic. Yeah, so wouldn't it be great if they take a cue from and I know it can't be Maybe it's immersive, but the smugglers run millennium experience, Oh my gosh. Yeah, able to like you know, hit certain buttons and a certain sequence make things actually happen.

15:36 Maybe there's the falling rocks that come from the ceiling. I never know. We could only hope that would be the case. That's for sure. You have to like tilt to the side, til to the other side because there's turbulence. Would be all over that for sure. The other thing that I found absolutely amazing, you know, guys, I have I did not realize that Lego has never done any Star Trek stuff. I think the closest we got was the Creole line. The Creole line, correct, they haven't have that, I know never You're right, Wow, that's really surprising. Playmobile had something recently they have. But Lego is diving into the world of Star Trek this year and they are starting it off with a big bang. There is set one zero, three, five six.

16:18 It's going to have three thousand, six hundred pieces, so it's gonna be a pretty good size of the Lego set. And it is of the Enterprise D and it comes with the card Riker Wharf, Jordy Doctor Crusher, Wesley Crusher, Troy Guynan and data along with his cat spot. Interesting. So release it does, and I will be buying this without question. Release date is Black Friday of this year, twenty twenty five, so right before Christmas. I'm sure it'll be a hefty price, There's no doubt about it, because. You've got plenty of time to save your money after that though. Yes, but I will be buying this one. Guys, I don't know about you, but I will be on it. Well. A couple of interesting ways they can go about this, aside from just put the thing out there, that'd be fantastic.

17:04 What have they just randomized a certain Star Trek alien in different sets, right, Obviously you'd have to have consistency for mass production, but it would be great to do so, and that there's a there's a fleet obviously of characters they could put into chase bags. If they wanted to little minifigures. I would know that what else have you guys got? Well in the world of action figures, it sounds like Nasell is coming back into the action figure line with a brand new approach. They've been ret revitalizing a lot of lines recently, like Sectors and biker mice from Mars and with Star Trek they're making the similar kind of deep cut approach. So Naseel founder Brian volk Weiss was at New York Comicon and unleashed what they planned to do, which is going to include all the series from Toos to Enterprise and all the feature films all the way up through Nemesis. They don't want to get into the same core characters that always get figures, so we won't get tons of datas or picards or writers or right right, they're going for the ones that are never rarely seen, starting with one of so the first four it's going to be a six to seven inch action figure line.

18:18 One of Jeff Johnson's favorites, Ronnie Cox as Captain Edward Jelligo from Chaining Command. No word on. Whether he has the extra four arm extensions to recreate the following from the High Rizon RoboCop. But we'll have to see all that. Over that, we'll be talking about Star Trek two, The Wrath of Khan Soon and from there we get Peter Preston, Scotty's nephew. We're also getting Valchris from Star Trek three and Captain Rachel Garrett from Yesterday's Enterprise. Yeah, those have never been released then you know those characters. Yep, they're going to keep the first wave of going with Mirror Jonathan Archer, Captain Hikaru Sulu, the Vorida Administrator. Wait, which would be interesting. You probably should have like a multi pack of those and low redecks and Voyager fans will be happy to see that two X is getting justice in the form of getting an action figure finally, finally, ye, no word on whether it comes with you know, two spare figures.

I want to talk about the ongoing Star Trek comics series that are being released by IDW. They've got quite a few great stories, great comics series that's being released. The first one is simply titled Star Trek. This is their main series. Issue twenty eight was released recently on Art's going to be released on January twenty seventh, and twenty nine on February nineteenth. This has been a fantastic series.

19:55 You know, if you're a fan of Star Trek, any of the series, you should check this out. Simple story. You know, something or someone is going around the universe killing the gods, and the prophets have returned Benjamin Cisco to take care of this. Starfleet has given him a ship, the USS Theseus and allowed him to pick his own crew, and he's chose Data, Beverly Crusher, Tom Parris, Montgomery Scott, and Harry Kim to assist him in this mission. It's been a great series. It's continuing on throughout the rest of the year, and it also has a companion series called Star Trek Defiant, which is following the same storyline, but this time it's with Wharf on the Defiant and he's got with him most of the crew of Deep Space nine given their old captain Cisco a hand. Plus they just this just started. We've got the Star Trek Lower Decks comic. You know that series is ended and if you love it this, you'll love this comic book.

20:54 Very similar in style, the art is similar to the animation and great and funny comic with its next issue, which is issue four, is being released on February twelfth, and then later this year, we've got a crossover event for Star Trek and all the series called Lore War Number one. It will show us a universe rebuilt on Lore's image. Oh jeez, yeah, he's won and taken over the universe and we'll have to see well how they managed to get out of that. But that will hit stores on April second. Check it out. Sounds good. Well, any any interesting conventions you guys see that's coming around the country. As you know, we're the con mans. We love going to conventions.

21:40 Well, you know a lot of the conventions there's always Star Trek guests, I know, around here in the Midwest. William Shatner's making appeance affectly every convention, but I think the big one for our listeners on the West Coast is the Las Vegas Convention, which they have every year. This is a huge convention. Last year had over one hundred Star Trek guests, including the entire cast everyone from Strange New Worlds was there. I'm JN I just yeah, I know. And they've just now started to announce it. It's going to take place on August sixth through the tenth of this year and at the Rio Las Vegas Hotel. And so far they've announced William Shatner, of course, but he's being joined by Kate Mulgrew, Jerry Ryan, and Roxanne Dawson.

22:25 And I mean over the next few months you'll see dozens and dozens of great Star Trek guests coming there. Will Michael dorm be there because he's avoiding us. He was there last year, and we know we need him to come over to this side of the country. I know, come on, LaVar Burton, Michael Dorn, we need you on the eathide over here at Ohio, you know, Kentucky, wherever, Come on, come close any what you're around here. I would also love to see like Strange New World's cast. Oh yeahs, like fantastic Tonny Newsome. I would love to meet you. That's face Another one. All right, guys, what about Star Trek Legacy seems to be kind of dead in the water. What do you think. Well, I wouldn't call it dead. I would call it on pause. I really do think we will see this series, just not right away. I think we'll probably we'll probably hear something about it, maybe in the next year or two.

23:17 But I wouldn't I would say twenty twenty seven be my guess. But I really do have confidence that Paramount will listen to the fans. They know we want it. We heard that they actually offered Jerry Ryan a series, but it wasn't what she was wanting. She wants Star Trek Legacy, and she told them no unless they give her this. I think they'll they'll give it to her eventually. I hope so, because it seems it's writing itself basically. Oh. Yeah, you're going to get a lot of yours, Paramount, But I promise you so give it to us. We will be happy with it. I promise. I wouldn't be surprised if we start. Once we start getting some of the new series, like Strange New World's coming back now for Downe with Section thirty one, hopefully then we'll get some news that they're getting into production, because that's that seems like the next logical thing.

24:08 Yeah, yeah, I think they're going to wait until Strange New Worlds is spinning down, which we all know it's only gonna last five years because that's where what Paramount does. Five years. Well, you know, next year, fourth season, they'll be considering their fifth it'll be winding down, and that's when they'll announce Legacy. Yeah. Oh, you're probably right on that. I'm betting that's what they're waiting for him wrap up Strange New Worlds and then we'll move into a new series with Legacy. Yeah okay, I'm okay with that, maam so I am too. Yeah yeah, all right.
