Hey, Jeff Hels are going Wow, what an intro. Right, Thanks Jeff Man. We're we're so glad to be here. Well, listen, we've been talking. I know we we kind of met back last year in the fall or at the at the Shirley Fest two and you guys were just now you were starting to talk about the podcast and like Hey, we're gonna make this happen. I was, I just I couldn't wait.

1:46 I was looking forward to it. I'll just I'll just be honest. A few of my favorite episodes bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer, your two parter that you did for Flash Gordon. But give us, guys, give us an idea of what we're in store for when we when we tune into the Accidental Legends podcast. Matt, you want to you want to. Do that, I'll take it. Well. You mentioned Living on a Prayer, that that was the song that kind of birthed the whole idea of Accidental Legends. You know, Jon bon Jovie didn't want Living on a Prayer as a song. Oh and by the way, it's his biggest song of all time, so that concept of the artist hated it, didn't like it, didn't think it would go versus what actually happened. It's actually his biggest song ever. And that was what captured me about the whole idea of the Accidental Legends.

2:43 And the whole the whole idea behind your show is these are big songs, big movies, big whatever it is, it's big, but it shouldn't. Have been, right, it. It probably should not have worked, but it did. And I absolutely love what you guys do. I've always been fascinated with the biographies in the entertainment industry of you know, all the cards were stacked against them and they couldn't get the budget for it, and they had the dream and nobody believed in it. But for all of us, like in our generation, Generation X or whatever, it just simply existed and was like a part of our lives, like Star Wars, like Raiders of the Lost Start we didn't know any better. But when you dig in, you realize that, you know, every idea has a beginning, And it's just fascinating to me that if you don't go for those dreams, if you don't push a little farther because you believe in yourself, these things could have just as easily gone away and we'd have never heard of them.

3:43 Well, I'm glad you guys aren't going anywhere. I know you just kind of wrapped up on season one. Not too long ago, you did this cool like an April Fool's thing. I was listening to it. Not too long ago, you guys covered spies like us, which I gotta say, I own it. I was like, and it's one of those like this is a situation where you guys kind of turned the tables. It's like, this should have definitely worked, this should have been everything, and yet it kind of wasn't. It was. It was a misfire, right. I love what you guys did on that one. I'm kind of like, it depends on the day. It depends on the mood you catch me in. I'm either I'm either a big fan of spies like us, or I'm like that movie.

4:23 That movie sucked. But when you see the DVD for five dollars and you're like, I know, I laughed at that when I was eleven, so I'm gonna buy it. It goes back and forth. But uh, one other thing I'll give you guys heads up. I know you guys were talking a little bit about SCTV during that episode, and you guys were like, ah, man, I'd like to like to find that, like to catch that. Sources indicate it should be available this year on Prime sometime very soon, So cool, keep your eyes peeled out. Adam McKay. He is the director of Talladega Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Three Things that You guys and our listeners may not know about Adam McKay, and I'm going to drop you a quote. He got his start as a stand up comic before writing and directing for Saturday Night Live back in nineteen seventy five, which honestly surprised me.

5:17 I just assumed he's a buddy of Will Ferrell, so they're probably the same age. But this guy is auditioning. For Saturday Live back when it was not ready for prime time players. He didn't make the cut, but he was strong enough to get a writing gig, so that's where he ended up. You know, in television, he was a founding member of comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, as well as an alumnus of a Second City improv company in Chicago, Illinois. Not to be confused with SCTV those guys, but. Surprisingly because everyone you know, you think Adam McKay and you think I'm going to laugh. But he has directed three films that have been nominated for Best Picture Oscar.

6:02 I'm talking about twenty fifteen's The Big Short, twenty eighteen's Vice, and most recently, twenty twenty one's Don't Look Up. So if you've seen them. You know the guy, The guy knows what he's doing. You accept, Yeah, except for one thing. On making sequels, Adam McKay had this to say, I'm quoting him here. Sequels are desperate. We're cooler than that. We kind of thought, wait a minute, if we do a sequel, we'll have enough cred from the first movie that we could do. Crazy ass shit. We won't have to establish new characters and story and jump right into what we want to do. And the second part was can we make a good sequel?

6:43 There are a lot of flat comedy sequels. Can we make one that? Does it suck? If you've seen the sequel to Anchorman? I think you have that answer, and I'm just calling it like I see it. So you guys, look, you guys. Are you guys do a great job digging deep on your on your episode. Anything that we that maybe maybe you could offer on Madam McKay a couple Maybe you guys have a couple of things we don't know which I go ahead. Sorry, no, I was, I was saying what you got, Derek. Well, I do have a little bit of an accidental legend spin on McKay. So you had talked about The Big Short, and before he had done comedies, so he had intentionally pivoted from the absurd comedy and wanted to move more into the serious, you know, the information heavy storytelling, starting with The Big Short and then his movies after that.

7:32 Many movie studios at the time thought that this was going to fail. How can you go from making super comedies to more serious based films. That's kind of a hard thing to pivot. So I just thought, well that right, there is a is an accidental legend slant that is absolutely. I'll be honest. I get I get recommended to see The Big Short, and I'm like, The Big Short? Who autam Adam McKay And I was like, I don't know. You know, Anchorman Ron Berget, you know, step Brothers is like, oh okay, yeah, that dude's awesome, Like his movies are hilarious, and they're like, yeah, check out The Big Short. I was like yeah. They're like, you won't laugh at all.

8:13 I was like yeah, and I just thought they're being sarcastic, like like I'm gonna laugh NonStop. They're right. It's it's like, you know, it's a pretty serious film and it's pretty damn good. So right, yeah, yeah, yeah, So you said he was. A writer on Saturday Night Live. He was the head rider as Saturday Night Live at the age of twenty eight, so the last two years he was on he was on the show. He wanted a specific nonsensical credit on the closing crawls as the as everything was closing out. He didn't want to be listed as writer because who really wants to be listed as rider? How boring is that?

9:00 He wanted to be the coordinator of falconry, the coordinate the coordinator of falconry and there were no falcons or hawks harmed in the making. Will that that says a lot If you've ever listened to one of his audio commentaries, I'm a big audio commentary guy, and I'll tell you I don't mind when they're fun and just two buddies hanging out like a like a John Carpenter Kurt Russell situation. And I love when it's gonna be a deep dive. I'm gonna tell you everything about this movie and every scene. I love that too. Adam McKay, he's he's not deep diving, and he's he's he's having conversations, but he is just just sarcastic and just playing a character and just I mean it, it's something to listen to. I don't know if you'd love it, but you know he makes it.

9:54 Uh, he's entertaining. I'll give him that. I got a couple more things for him. Lay it honest, man, if you want him, if you want them. You're the guest. Please services You guys talked about the whole idea of him doing serious films that really became kind of the bridge too far. He was he had a production company with Will Ferrell and it was called Oh, don't ask me, Gary Sanchez Production. Yes, Gary Sanchez was this fictional Paraguay and entrepreneur that Will supposedly had in his BlackBerry back in the day. But the way that Will describes it is they got on different bandwidths and kind of the last straw was when McKay cast Adam c Riley is Jerry Buss in Winning Time, And so that was just kind of the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of their productions and ship It lasted like fifteen years and in twenty nineteen they broke up.

11:05 Yeah, which is unfortunate because I thought they were doing great work, but you know, maybe we get the band back together someday, but who knows until then. So we kind of we're doing something a little different this season. We always talk about our favorite directors, big directors, but we talk about we focus on their underrated hits, and we usually do a pretty good synopsis on what these underrated movies are. This year, we kind of did what you guys did with your April Fool's Day, Like we turned the tables on everybody and we said, hey, we're gonna talk about big movies, blockbuster movies, which is why we're talking about Talladega Knights, the Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and we're focusing on the twentieth and twenty fifth anniversaries, so it's two thousand and one movies, it's two thousand.

11:47 And six movies. But we just said, let's not bore everyone with a big, long synopsis because everyone's seen these movies. So the challenge this year this season, tell me what Talladega Knights is is using exactly five words. So, h Dirk, I'm gonna I'm. Gonna put you, uh, put you on the up for grabs first and tell us, Dirk, what is Talladega nights in five exact. Words, overconfident driver learns humility kind of. I like that. I like that, all right, Matt, what do you got? Mine is a bit more poignant, to the point speed redemption and pissing. Excellent.

Ricky Bobby the Ballot, Ricky Bobby Talladegad Knights, none an other Will Ferrell. So he is, He's Ricky Bobby Our He's our hero, right. He's driving the twenty six car, the Laughing Clown Malt Liquor car, which what a sponsor. We've seen. At this point. He has dominated Saturday Live. He's he's made the break in the movies. Tell me, like, walk me through your guys's feelings about Will Ferrell, whether it's Will Farrell in general, like his kind of comedy or or what he's doing this movie, Matt Let's uh, let's let's let's start with you.

14:03 So my feeling on Will Ferrell, I think his some of his best work is a body double as Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Personally, that's my personal opinion. Again, I love me some Will Ferrell. I think probably my favorite Will Ferrell movie is The Wedding Crashers, that role that he plays as. Yeah, it's just a it's just a little cameo, but he's asking for me. But that's uh, that's one of my favorites. When you when you when you're this mythical, this this legend right that that has seen a million faces and rock them all. And you come down the steps and it's Will Ferrell with some nunchucks screaming as mom for Meatlow.

14:53 If you're like, we just. Went to a whole other level and this is awesome. Yeah, what what about it? Derek Will Ferrell? You know, for me, I started him watching him on S and L and he was kind of the next generation of what you know, the handing of the torch at that time. So at first it. Was an acquired taste. I wasn't quite sure I understood, but you know, once he kind of did the cheerleaders and then you know, the duet with I think it was Kristin wigg They used to No, No, No, was Ella Gastire, Yeah, and they would do the singers, and then I started thinking that was pretty hilarious. Old School was really what turned it around for me. Loved Old School. And probably my favorite movie with him is It's kind of traditional, but I like Elf. Everybody in my family has that traditional movie for Christmas, so we just watched that a lot.

15:43 I've got a complicated relationship with Elf because it's a classic. It's a fun Christmas movie, but we as with the conment. You know, we like to go to these conventions and you know, we like the rubbed shoulders, elbows with the some celebrities, you know, get some sound bites here and there, and just go through fun. Oh thank you, thank you. Matt Uh. This guy we we actually we got kind of lot like lumped in with a bunch of other media guests. This guy is in full cosplay as. Buddy the Elf. And at first I was like, oh, that's. Fun, but then he he was Buddy the Elf. So he's screaming and he's just being obnoxious. I'm sorry, I mean, I mean, but you know what, he was making it work because he was getting people's attention and they were.

16:32 Like, ah, Buddy, you know what's your favorite color? You know. So but ever since that day, and it's just because I had a lot of Buddy the. Elf for like six hours straight, and I'm just like, I'm this become Christmas time. I'm probably skipping it for a. Year or four, I don't know, but that's fair. Yeah. Yeah, but listen for putting up as long as you did. And you know, listen, shout out to that guy because he was having a great time and that's what those conventions. Are all about. And people were eating up what he was doing. So he you know, well, I may have been like, dude, dial it back a little bit. He was, he was, he was, he was living it up. So I committed for that, Jeff.

17:12 It's one thing we can say about the Crazies. At least they're committed. Yes, Derek, they are definitely committed, uh speaker committed. John c Riley in the role of cal Naughton Jr. My second favorite character in the movie. I'm just gonna tell you right now, John c Riley, Like, so we see what he can do with Will Ferrell. You know, they've done well. I think they've done three movies together now. I think cal Naughton Junior is my favorite of of the Will Ferrell movies. You know, what, what do you guys think? Like, what, what how do you feel about mister uh, mister old spice himself. I'm gonna let you go on this one, Okay. John c Riley's He's got to be one of my favorite character type actors. I mean from Boogie Knights all the way to something like Talladega Knights. He can do everything serious, drama, ridiculous, comedy. I really liked him in the Oh he did a spoof on Johnny Cash.

18:11 You know what I'm talking about, Uh, Dewey Dewey Cox. I think dew Cox. Yes, I hadn't seen that one. That's a pretty good one too, That's pretty funny. He's just hilarious. The thing you know before, Matt, I want to I want to hear from you. But the thing think about Riley, I think he's amazing when he's a dramatic actor and I know he's he's we're laughing at him in Boogie Knights, But I think about him in like something like what Meryl Streep's the River Wilde where he's playing secondhand to Kevin Bacon. Or if you guys have ever seen a film called Casualties of War with Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox a long time ago. Yeah, Yeah, he's that's a that's a young John c Riley.

18:52 But he's he's he's a damn he's a damn good actor. I'll give him that, Matt. What do you what do you think about Riley? So I was telling a little earlier, the bane of my existence is awkward comedy. Yeah, But John c Riley is one of the or Adam c Riley is one of the few guys that I can take it from. So he just but he just kind of looks the part. Now. Steve Carell is the other guy that I just kind of take it from and enjoy it from. But I I agree with you on the serious because I am a fan of Winning Time. Okay, he's really really good in that as Jerry Buss. He's excellent in that.

19:38 I uh, I think one of the things that he does well is this is an absurd comedy, but he is so committed to playing it straight. It makes him hilarious. It's you know, I think about like when he's later in the movie when they've had their falling out and he's just calling him and you know, he's just just like, hey, you walk come over and played gi I Joe's which how about which? Which car you miss? I'll pick you up in the car you miss the most, you know, after he stole it his life basically and his. Wife and he said, oh, come on man, that was that was a week ago. You know, you know, it's just he's he's hilarious. I love what John c Railey is doing in this movie. I'm gonna be I'm gonna be honest, like for me, another amazing comedian.

20:21 Uh, most people would have that opinion. I don't know that I do. Uh. Sasha Baron Cohen as a Jean Gerard. Admittedly I'm not a fan of Sasha Baron Cohen. Uh the Borat stuff, Yeah, the Borat Ali g and the the who is the fashion uh Hugo or something like that. I can't remember what he was called. It's not my thing. But he is amazing in this movie. And he's hilarious in this movie. And I don't know what it is about this role, but him playing the main antagonist and just how he challenges Ricky Bobby. I think it's hilarious, absolutely hilarious.

21:02 What do you? What do you guys? Is is this like the the adversary we needed for a movie like this. I like the way that you talk about, uh playing it straight, because this guy plays it straight as well. He's just kind of within himself. He's within his character and it's just funny because it's so serious and it's so outlandish, and I I can appreciate those things. The Matthew irony of you saying that he's playing it straight. Uh is is not lost on me since he his character is an openly gay French formula uh driver Vicky did Yeah, you got about full of peanutburgser sir, Uh, Derek, your your thoughts on Sasha Baron cohen A you have you have you?

21:50 Were you always a fan? Or did this movie change your mind? Or I'm gonna well, first of all, I'm gonna put him in sort of the the Riley kind of category. I don't know if you've ever seen. There's an Apple TV show called Disclaimer, and it's very dramatic. It's a thriller, and he plays sort of this tortured husband having to deal with you know, the storyline plot. I don't want to give any. Of it away, but it's very serious. It's very grounded. So yet again, he's another guy that can play over the top characters but also be very grounded in drama. I was not much of a fan. I think before even Borat you had DOLLI G show on HBO or something like that. I never really got any of that.

22:36 But I think he's a great villain in this. I think he's he's kind of he plays the camp correctly because he is living the character in this universe thinking that this universe is normal, and I think that's hilarious. Yeah. Absolutely, I'm gonna ask you guys, because listen, we would need like a mini series to cover everyone that's in this movie. So there's there's one person I definitely want to mention, uh before we move on to doing a little bit of background on this one. But I want to kick it to you guys first. If there's one person we haven't talked, we're not talking about yet that you're like, we gotta we gotta call. This actor or this actress out. Who is it?

23:17 I want to take a guess at which one your pick is? Is it Gary Cole? Oh, It's definitely Gary Cole. That was gonna be mine. Okay, Okay, He's one of my favorites and everything. So yeah, matter you were you going Gary Cole? Or did you have someone else that you wanted to call out? So if we're calling out so my my two favorite actors in this movie besides the obvious ones that we've been discussing, would be Amy Adams and I love Molly Shannon in this and she she does what she always does. She takes a little bitty tiny part and she makes it larger than live. And that's what I love about Molly Shannon. You know, she might as well just kind of be, you know, sniffing her armpits and her finger. Yeah, and so yeah, those would be my callbacks, huh.

24:03 Her her role is so minimal but so memorable. And it's not even so much her, it's just what I what I would assume is an ad lib on set that day when when we first meet her, and you know, Ricky Bob was like, all right, what I'll tell you what you you and your wife, missus Jim Beam you said on out and. I'll do what I do. But yeah, Shannon's hilarious. Amy Adams absolutely adorable in this in this movie, and you gotta remember this is this is maybe maybe this is the movie that kind of put her on the map a little bit because she had done some television. I remember she had like a three three episode arc on the Office playing like Jim's girlfriend, you know, like a girl he started dating. I know she had done one or two small movie like you know, small roles in some some decent movies. But I mean it's after this where you know, Amy Adams is Amy Adams.

24:53 Right, so well, oh I'm sorry, go ahead, Oh please please? No, no, no, no, no. Well no, it was it was this movie that was right after June Bug and June Bug that was released in two thousand and five. This was released obviously in two thousand and six June Bug. She got nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. So while she was filming this and while June Bug was out, she was still kind of just you know, in the background. But then after these two movies, after she got nominated for the Oscar, then she started picking up, you know, she picks up you know, more lead roles.

25:34 Yeah, well, I think like Amy Adams. I think like movie star Amy Adams. I think of I. Think a movie is obviously you know Superman where she's playing Lewis Lane. You can't not see that one. What's she does The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg, where I think she's amazing, you know, American Hustle with Christian Bale. So she's she's becoming a she's a big star. Obviously she's a big star now. But I kind of look back, like even watch watching this recently doing a rewatch, I was like, holy shit, that's Amy Adams. I forgot that she was in it because she's her character is such a small role, but hilarious. You know, Leslie Bib, Jane Lynch. There's a lot of hilarious women in this movie. We talked Molly Shannon. But back to our guy, Gary Cole, who's playing Reese Bobby Ricky's dad. This might be one of the greatest intros for a character when he kind of dips into career day.

26:32 You know, hasn't seen his son in ten years. Say, boy, you've grown. What's it been three or four months? I'm ten years old. Dad smoking a cigarette so you can't smoke it here. It's okay, darling, I'm a volunteer firefighter. Dude crushes this role. I mean, he's my favorite. He might be one of my favorite parts of the whole movie. And this is another guy hilarious when you look at something like what office space where he's Lumberg can be very scary if you've seen if you've seen a Sam Raimi movie called A Simple Plan, which we covered gosh way back in. Season one a long time ago. Oh, I haven't seen that one at all. He's a little he's a little scary he's a little he's definitely intimidating.

27:13 Uh he kills you. Mike Brady, he does, Yeah, come on. He is he he was Mike Brady. And then surprisingly enough, even he does like a small role on Fraser where he's playing like this lothario and when I see, like, when I go back and I watch Fraser, I'm like Lumberg. But then I'm like, the dude is suave, he's cool, he's good looking. You know, you believe that he's this lady's man on Fraser. You know that Fraser wants to hang out with and and be best friends with. So the guy, I feel like, this guy can do anything. He's very underrated. H I love him and everything. But yeah, Reese, Bobby is one of the coolest characters I've ever seen in a comedy.

27:54 It's just that's just where I'm at with him. You think he was born with a half drunk can of beer in his hand. Maybe, I think it's like that. In every scene he's in, he's got a can of beer in there. Yeah, it's our mangy transient granddad, well said grandson. Yeah, the dude is just you know, that's a that's a that's a Cougar. I know it is. I put it in the car, you know, like, yeah, I believe, Like like Reese, Bobby hypes himself up so much, but I believe everything that he's said or done. I'm like, yeah, he could, he can do it. You know that was going to be my my part two of the five Words synopsis was Cougar's Redemption and.

28:37 Oh man, yeah, Gary Cole, dude, but this is gonna be coming before it becomes a Gary Cole episode. We're just we're gonna move on. I want to talk a little bit of background. I got a couple of things I want to share about this movie. And I have to believe you guys. You guys, like I said, you're the accidental legend. So I know you guys probably have a couple of cool things for for our listeners. So McKay and Ferrell they begin throwing ideas around for a NASCAR comedy while Farrell's making Dirk's favorite movie Elf. After this, one of their buddies, one of their producing buddies. There, he says, let's let's go to a NASCAR race. I want you to see what's up. They go to the race, They love it. They write the script and they go around town. They're visiting all the studios to pitch the idea.

29:24 And it's a simple six word pitch, which is Will Ferrell as a NASCAR driver, and I want you to think immediately, Yeah, a bidding war breaks out based on those six words. Every studio is wanting it because the guy is a hit machine, right, He's he's a proven talent from Saturday Live. All of his movies are box office gold at this point. So yeah, so they're you know, six words, and they're like, yep, seventy five millions, that's that's what we need. We'll do it, We'll do I know they So, you know Nascar, you gotta have Nascar in this. Outside of one week shooting at Talladega super Speedway in Alabama, the entire film is shot in North Carolina at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Rockingham Speedway. And if you I don't know, are you guys Nascar fans?

30:16 My chance? I wish I was after this movie, but now, yeah, I don't really follow it much. So I grew up as an Earnhart fan, which made me an Earnhardt junior fan, you know. So I've always loved it. But what I dig like, especially like when you do like a sports movie and you get the cameos from real life sports figures, athletes and such. Broadcasters and real life NASCAR drivers are seen throughout this entire movie. Greats like Daryl Waltrip. Dal Larnhart Jr. Tony Stewart, Casey Kine, Jimmy Johnson, I think Jeff Gordon's in there. There's a there's a ton of I'm leaving, I'm leaving a bunch of guys out. But I, for one, like I love seeing that kind of stuff. But I'm curious anything from the accident in legends, like what did you guys dig up anything on this on this movie.

31:04 I found this one factoid actually just today when I was kind of fine tuning and going back on this. The Wonderbread deal. The sponsorship. Okay, so it's kind of interesting. The Wonderbread sponsorship. It was a handshake deal. They wanted it because the company was actually bankrupt at the time, so this allowed them to participate with minimal formal constraints any of that kind of stuff, and give them advertising. So just just kind of one of those perfect moment situations. We need you as much as you need us basically, yeah, so there you have it. That's there you go. Right. So what I found on this was Earnhardt Junior was the slam dunk because when the Days of Thunder folks showed up to see his dad Senior, Yep, he was fifteen or sixteen years old, and they wanted him to be what's the guy's name, Oh, don't ask me, Rowdy Burns.

32:07 I'm sorry, Rowdy Burns. Okay, oh yeah yeah, yeah. So they they fashioned Rowdy Burns after Dale Earnhardt Sr. Absolutely and Earnhardt said, no, I don't want to do it. I don't want to be the bad guy. So he he consulted on it on Days and ann but he didn't actually do it. So they show up for Talladega Nights to Junior and Junior's like, yes, right now, I'm in take me take me to where it is? And I think it literally happened within a day or two of them talking. He was like, where do I show up? And he goes, and he shows up and he goes for it. Yeah. Well and it's a it's a fun little cameo because he's there to get Ricky's autograph. Like after Ricky breaks out and has it, you know, starts to getting the career.

Yes, a lot of NASCAR guys were hesitant because they they didn't like what. They saw with Days of Thunder. You know, Yes, there's only there's maybe a handful of cameos in that one. And listen, Days of Thunder kicks ass. I love Days of Thunder. And to your point, anyone that watches that knows we're watching a movie about Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt.

Right, Well, and it was panned for lack of authenticity and for it being over the top on drama and emotion, but yeah, you know, and strategy kind. Of yeah, I think it's one of the situations though, because obviously it's gonna paint a little bit of a negative look at NASCAR. And you know, and I'm paraphrasing here. I don't have the I don't have the exact quote, but but Adam McKay and they're like, they're talking about what this movie needs to be and they said, hey, it's important to us that NASCAR understands. We don't want to make fun of Nascar. We want to have fun with Nascar.

34:13 And I gotta be honest. Like, yeah, the movie is hilarious, But the the scenes on the track, the action in general, it is damn good. It is. It's it's right up there in some scenes, in some scenes maybe better than what you see in Days of Thunder. I mean, they did not hold back. They're on the real tracks. I know that. Uh, Farrell and Riley had you know, McKay said, you're you're going to uh what I think it is? Is it? Is it Jared or Waltrip one of one of the one of the racing schools. It was the Richard Petty Richard experience. Yeah, that's what Thank you, Derek, That's what it was. And Farrell has many times said, I was terrified being in that car. You have to be, you're going two hundred miles an hour And now I know they're not going to hundred miles an hour, but you know, I mean think about like when you get on the highway and you're like, oh, I'm cruise, it's ninety, I'm ninety miles an hour, I'm cruising, I'm rolling.

35:08 Yeah, but then that's ninety. Imagine something roaring right past you at two fifteen to twenty like that that his scene when he comes back after his rehab and he's just like. What was that? You know, like, how fast is it going. Twenty six miles an hour? Just like it's gotta be scary. Yeah. NASCAR even was consulting on jokes for that. Yeah. So they would hear a joke and they'd say, hey, here's a here's a better kind of idea, and McKay kind of groused that they can drive one hundred and fifty two hundred miles an hour and make better jokes.

35:48 So an example of this would be the Applebe's cut away in the final scene where a Gerard and Bobby were crashing and they do this Applebee's break. Yeah. And so the problem was that the fans were always complaining that TV broadcast would cut out the commercials, like right in this middle of this huge dramatic, exciting moment. Yes, yeah, it's a I mean, I listen, I've watched plenty of Talladega races Daytona and like something. Yeah, you're right, like something majors happened. We'll be right back. It is nuts to me all of the good songs that they collaborated and they pulled into this movie and I couldn't find it. But I think they may have even done some special recording with some of the some of it just the instrumental parts, and I'll talk about that, but I couldn't find anybody to confirm or deny that. But I think it's got to be true. I think they've got They had to have had maybe had these bands in and say hey, record this part in or or take the vocals out. Yeah, and just give us some just give us some music that can kind of be a music bed. There were two specific songs that were that way.

So in the in the final scene, they've got a song called Shipwrecked Sailor by four hundred Blows, and then they've got another another song called Desperate Cry by Sepultura. So those two specifically were instrumental. And as I listened to those songs, as I went back, I had to find them. And it's one of the great things about renting this on Prime is you can find the uh, the the commentary and figure out what's playing because it'll actually tell you the song that's playing when they do it. And I really had to dig for that Shipwrecked Sailor. But they had just these these great instrumental parts that I'm pretty sure aren't in the songs at least by themselves.

1:06:16 First time I watched this was Netflix DVD way back. Okay, oh when back when they before they are bloodsucking parasites, and you know. I think it was a good deal for everybody. Yeah, first time I saw I thought it was okay. But for me, like a lot of comedies, upon rewatching, letting it marinate, I've decided I really enjoyed this one, and I think it's a definite ce. There's a lot of funny stuff going on here, a lot of different layers. It's that if you like NonStop sketch type comedy improv, this is. I put it in a caliber of like Off the Space or Dodgeball or Tropic Thunder. If you like those kind of movies, you're gonna like this movie, all right?

Netflix just got two point eight billion dollars to do nothing with Warner Brothers. It was a breakup fee, and they celebrate this by raising the price of our subscriptions. And I don't even know this movie is on Prime or it's on is on Netflix? Oh is it not? Okay? No, I am not. I am not a physical media whorror like a lot of people are. So I had to stream and the only place I could find it was on Prime. I mean you could go, you could go through you know, Apple TV, to Fandango and all that kind of stuff. And I just went to Prime and I rented it for three dollars a nine and nine cents.

And I If you love formulaic SNL comedy, if you love SNL cameos and awkward humor and physical humor. This is your jam, which I get it. Most people are that way. I am just not. I'm strange, no. Problem, no worries, man. Uh, I absolutely recommend it. I recommend the unrated uncut version with thirteen extra minutes.
