Meg 2: The Trench Review

I'm Jeff Johnson for a film by podcast, here to offer you a quick spoiler free review of Meg to the Trench Dons when you do three Megs and who knows why else to escape the trench by the plan here, I'm gonna kill them all one by one. Wrong, Come on, men too the trench ready, PG. Thirteen. All right, So is this movie ridiculous? Yes? Is it absurd? Yes, but that does not mean it's not awesome. Look, if you saw the trailer, then you've already watched Jason Statham launch a se do offie tidal wave at a Meg to throw an explosive harpoon at it, so you should know what to expect.

1:22 Statham is back as the resident deep sea rescue slash Eco Warriors, slash all around badass Jonas Taylor and a couple holdouts from the first movie. Veteran actor Cliff Curtis returns in the role of Mac Page. Kennedy is back as DJ and in a surprising turn, Shuya Sophia Kai is also rounding out the cast, who is that, Well, if you remember the adorable eight year old may Ying from the first movie, she's back as the nazo adorable teenager who is definitely not going to listen to Statham when he tells her to stay put, putting her in harm's way time and time again. So should we expect any nominations for Best Acting for this cast? Well no, but let's be honest, that is not. While you're watching this movie, you want to see Jason Statham do some insane things, both in and out of the water.

2:22 And let's be honest, you want to watch some giant sharks eat a lot of stupid people. Now, surprisingly, the movie takes a hard left turn out of the Jaws nostalgia right into the action genre, which is unexpected but also kind of cool. And if you're a fan of newer films doing homages to classic great films, Director Ben Wheatley has several things up his sleeve. We're spoiler free here. You already saw the trailer, so you know we've got some Jurassic aquatic creatures, but I'll I'll let you find the rest of them. There's some cool shots and basically a story, a story thread lifted right out of a James Cameron's first underwater movie from back in the day.

3:14 As for the special effects, I would say the CGI for prehistoric giant megalodons is what you should expect, pretty much on par with the first movie, and the practical effects were pretty good. Actually, one excellent scene involving a helicopter. And look, if you're a fan of the Piranha or Jaws franchises, I don't have to tell you how that one turns out. You might not recognize the name Ben Wheatley, but for a guy that has cut his teeth on a couple of low budget horror films, I think he did really good with this one. After all, you got to take a chance sometimes. I mean, let's not forget the guy that gave us Cool Runnings and While You Were Sleeping is the same guy that gave us the first Meg movie. And again, the fact that Wheatley can drop a small action movie with machine gun wielding mercenaries in the middle of a giant shark movie tells me he knows what he's doing and we're gonna see more things from him. Who knows. Maybe he's back in the director's chair for meg three D because if you think the studio is going to sleep on that, well you've got another thing coming, so then see it, stream it or swim for it.

4:29 Overall, I had fun with this one. I think it's a big, fun summer popcorn movie. And if that's what you like, and you like the first one, I say see this, go out see it, have yourself a good time.
