Yeah, there's there's great women directing films. Yes, let's talk about one of them. I'd like to talk about a film by Nancy Myers, her twenty fifteen underrated. She's called it comedy, drama, edy. I call it a comedy. Let's go comedy. Surprisingly, they're not like a rom com, just a comedy. Not a rom com, just comedy. It's the intern. Welcome back.

We had a lot of fun sharing our top ten favorite Gene Hackman performances. Yes, that was so much fun. A lot of good feedback quickly popping up for that one. Last week we were talking about one of my favorite directors, Darren Aronofski. We covered black Swan, which was actually celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, which we weren't planning that, and come to find we're talking about another movie celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. I'm gonna have to go back and check the schedule and see if, like if March, if it's just happenstance at March, we're just doing nothing but fifteenth anniversaries because we're two for two. Now, if you're not paying attention Nancy Myers, I got a couple of facts for you. I got a quote for you. An accomplished screenwriter and you know this Amber She first became interested in writing after she saw Mike Nichols The Graduate in nineteen sixty seven. Now correct me if I'm wrong.

2:39 We did Mike Nichols Wolf last year. Yes, and aren't you covering another Mike Nichols film soon? Yes, we are doing Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? So so it's it's Wolf to Wolf with ambera. Yes, basically all right. Nancy Myers has final cut privilege on her films, which is uncommon for most directors working in Hollywood. This means that no one, including the studio studio executives producers, even the star. None of them can change her cut of the film. What Nancy says goes. So that's a pretty impressive. You know.

3:23 Yeah, not a lot of people have that. But I think everybody knows what they're signing up for when you make a Nancy Meyer's movie. So I think, so, yeah, I'll tell you what you might be signing up for. Two of her common trademarks are successful women as the protagonists in kitchens with extravagant decor as a set piece. Have you ever picked up on that? I am so glad you mentioned this, because her movies, like it's just like wrapping yourself in like a cozy cashmir sweater. Like every buddy is successful, they're beautiful, they have money, they have these beautiful houses, and she has this thing for kitchens and they're all very different. But every time you're like, oh, but I want that one.

4:14 When you watch a Nancy Myers film, you're already looking for, like the scene where we're gonna be in the kitchen, because it's gonna be one hell of a kitchen. That's how it is. Yes, absolutely, I gotta be honest. I don't know how she would feel about us covering one of her films during Women's History Month. And I say that because I got a quote here she was talking about women directing movies and she says, we don't want to be our own niche. We're filmmakers like everybody. How many years in a row are we going to talk about the fact that we make films and we are women enough already preach sister Amber. Please make a note that the next time we talk about Nancy Myers, it'll be like October December. Just it won't be it won't be Women's History Month.

5:10 There is an element of it where when you start saying female director, it kind of has this tinge to it, of like it's a monkey riding a bike or something. So to just say director and that's. Enough, Okay, that's fair. Yeah, I got nothing, I got that's okay, good job. We'll walk the line here and just be like, let's move on. Let's move on before I get in trouble. This was a first time watch for both of us, Am I right? Yes? Okay? I imagine some of our listeners maybe have not seen The Intern. They don't know what The Intern is about. Will you give us a little synopsis?

5:53 Sure, seventy year old widower Ben Whittaker played by Robert de Niro, has just cover the retirement isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern senior as in citizen, not as in college or high school, at an online fashion site founded and run by Jules Austen played by Anne Hathaway. This film is written and directed by Nancy Myers. Can we take a quick minute to talk about Nancy Myers the writer, the screenwriter. Oh my gosh, because I know we were off Mike and you were like I was good.

6:35 And I'm not gonna cheat and mention that my favorite movie some of them are. She was the writer of well okay, the director. So I find this fascinating. On our limited nineteen eighty six series, Yes, we covered a film called Jumpin' Jack Flash. I know without me it was a sad story. You weren't on the you were. It was pre Amber. This is this is pre voice of the Reason. But here's what blows my mind. Nancy Myers wrote the screenplay for Jumping Jack Flash under the pseudonym Patricia Irving. Oh I didn't know that. Who's Patricia Irving? Like, I don't know now I want to go down a rabbit hole and find out what else she wrote Irving. But in addition to Jumping Jack, Flash and as Nancy Myers, she did write Private Benjamin, Baby Boom and all three Father of the Bride films.

7:34 Did we cover your favorite one? You said, she's written some of your favorites. Well, Jumping Jack, Flash and Private Benjamin for sure. Yeah, even the you remember they did like a Private Benjamin TV show. It's like a limited Yes, she wrote that too. Now, when we talk about her as a director, she is in fact the highest grossing female director, even though she doesn't want to be a female director. She just wants to be a director. Yes, you just we categorize Amber carefully. I'll say it. She is the highest grossing female director of all time, having surpassed Penny Marshall. You know, she's also one of the most sought after writers, directors, and producers in Hollywood. So the question is why isn't her filmography twice as big? And I'll tell you it's due to the fact that she is a very detail oriented professional. She tends to spend a full year writing before going into production, and then it's typically a six month shoot, which she follows with an additional six months of editing. Because she's one of those directors that says, we're gonna get about twenty seven cuts of this scene.

8:46 You know, we're gonna do twenty seven takes. We're gonna have lots of different camera angles. She loves she's a big time she's a big time editor. She loves edit so well. And I would be willing to bet as well that she's hands on in every aspect. She knows exactly what kind of flowers should be on the table, and you know, the color palette and everything like I. Would hazard a guess that the art director on the on her films probably isn't even allowed in the kitchen set, right, Probably it's probably all Nancy just go no, no, let. Me just she knows who this woman that she's written for is, and she knows exactly what. Her kitchen looks like. Yeah, I think I think you're right.

The intern Amber being Robert de Niro. He's playing Ben Whittaker, the seventy year old man who applies to become the intern at the you know, with this program that about the Fit and Anne Hathaway's company is doing. So I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. This might be one of the best Robert Denier performances I've seen.

10:11 Oh my gosh, he's such a marshmallow. He's so sweet in this movie. He's he's the Gentleman's gentleman, right, yes, yeah, I absolutely love what he's doing in this movie. And and when I say that, I love it, I love what he's doing some of the callbacks to some of his other characters, because if you're watching this okay, so obviously you probably if you saw one, you saw the the obvious one. Right when he's looking in the mirror, he's talking in the mirror. Yeah, so's he's cribbing Travis Bickle there, Yes, you know. Also, it's not lost on me that he's driving her for half this movie and you know, played maybe the most fas taxi.

11:00 No, I didn't even think about the fact that he was her driver. That's yeah, yeah, this is yeah, so we got a lot of taxi driver creeping in to his performance. And then eagle eyed viewers will notice he does the the uh raging bull the fist pump. Oh, that's right, he does. He does it twice, and I'm like, so he's just he's taking some of his favorite characters and just putting him into a little bit into Ben Whitaker here. Now. I absolutely love what he's doing. The video application that he does. Oh my gosh, so perfect when they say that they loved his his video and like everybody was crying when they watched it.

11:45 Yeah, he's I don't know, there's just something about what he's doing here, like I want to be Robert de Niro in this movie. Yes, in like thirty years, Yeah obviously, but you. Know, like like you said, the gentlemanlyness of him and just the honesty and the truth that he carries his life with. Well, I think it's great the way the young guys in the office are taking notes from him on Yeah. That's why I. Never saw this movie because I thought it was going to be just kind of one joke. Yeah, of ha ha ha this you know, senior Citisen and with these young kids and he doesn't know how to use a phone and you know, yeah, stuff like that, And it's not that at all.

12:30 It's not that at all. He's he's teaching them about the difference between pocket squares and handkerchiefs. He's teaching them on etiquette and and what women really want. And I love that they're all they're all eating it up right, Yes, they all do. So he's so coolness. I appreciate it for who he is. Although I do have to say, like the big flood in this movie is the conceit that like this seven year old man is just taking this internship because he's bored, like and not because he can't afford his healthcare. Like, this is definitely a Nancy Myers universe that we're living in, where everybody's got plenty of money and really nice booms.

13:13 I'll say this though, I mean because he was he had a very successful career before he retired. Yes, And I what I love about this is my dad is gonna be seventy this year and he recently retired, thank you. He recently retired, and I see a lot and he's not the biggest de Niro fan, so he's not gonna be happy here. In this, but I see a lot of him in Ben. I'll say, I'll say that way, So, Daddy, I never got to have that, I know, I know. I know. I'm glad that you get to have that because. Yeah, he just but my dad is so busy since he's retired. I mean I was. I just always assume, like, well, when he retires, all hang out with him a whole lot more right, There's some truth to that. But a lot of times I call my dad, he's he's in the middle of something or he's busy, you know, he's got stuff going on, and he's it's a lot like you know, Ben, you know, the beginning of this movie, I'm seeing my dad because Ben's like, I retired, and then I should need to keep busy. So I started doing this, and I did this, and I learned this, and I learned a Mandarin.

14:23 And I how he talks about that he traveled, and he travels, you know, learned how to play it with what pink pe knuckle or. Something a knuckle. Yeah, he's doing tai chi in the park. But at the end of the day, he just wants to belong. He wants to be, Like he says in his video. He wants to be needed. Yes, So the idea that he's going into this internship not because he needs the money, just he wants to feel useful, you know. And and I do appreciate the fact that Anne Hathaway. At first she's like, I don't need this guy around here. I'll call him if I need him, And then she picks up on the back that he's just all over the office helping people and teaching and mentoring like the young guys. Yes, so I hear what you're saying, but I will say there's a little bit of truth to it, even if we're in even if we're outside the Nancy Meyers universe. Yes, what he's doing, what who he is, who Ben Whittaker is is is very real to me.

15:19 And I love it. I absolutely love it. Tell you who else I love? And Hathaway as a Jules Austen. She's the owner of this online fashion company about the fit. Have we ever seen Anne Hathaway and not loved her? I'm thinking back, I just I can't think of. Anywhere it's funny because her in real life, like when she does interviews or anything like absolutely like fingernauts on a chalkboard, to me, you're getting her in movies. I love. Just focus on the work. But I think this is the most competent character she's ever played. She's usually at least got some kind of learning curve where she's bumbling or tripping or falling or learning or something, and in this she is every every bit the you know, very together, very knows what she wants, and she's struggling with people telling her, well, but you're a woman executive, so maybe you don't really know what you're doing.

16:25 Yeah. Kind of a weird situation. The plot of this movie where her advisors are like basically saying, look, it's too big, too fast. It could capsize if you don't get an experienced CEO to help you run this company, which is code for find an older man he knows how to run a business, and I'll be. The ending like, was not where I thought we were going to end up. I was surprised put a. Pin in that ending because I got thoughts, I got, I got I got feelings a couple what Uh I lost my train of thought because we got said the ending and I was just like the ending, I'm sorry, No, that's okay, that's okay. Uh, But Yeah, the.

17:14 Idea that you know, she herself needs a mentor. Yeah, and that's okay, I'm back on track with. That after she's already become so successful. What I was looking for in this movie, scratch that, what I was expecting. There's a couple of tropes I was I was expecting in this movie, and thank you Nancy for not doing any of them. But I did expect her at some point to become kind of like a hurt, whiny type of individual at some point who needed DeNiro to protect her well. Or to mess up or something. You can see, Yeah, she really doesn't. She's not really got all these plates spinning.

And later, later I want to talk about who who had the role for Anne Hathaway, and I think we would have seen a lot more of a whiney helped me, you know, type of type of character developed. So I'm glad. I'm I think I think Ane Hathaway is just lights out here. She's strong, she's she's charming, you know, I mean, you fall in love with her in every scene she's in because, let's be honest, this is the person that you want to work for. She has this The whole thing with her office is set up to if. My office was like that, I would not be working from home. Everyone's yeah, everyone's on the same floor because we all want to be working together. We want to be together.

18:38 Oh look, there's our CEO right now. She's at that desk talking to that person. She's not happy with the way the packaging is, so she goes to the warehouse and does like like a little workshop with the workforce. There are like, hey, let's fold it like this, and let's make it look like this, like I look like you would want to. Have that scene where she had it delivered to her house to see what it look like when it arrived. Oh yeah. I was like, oh my no, that's such a great idea. How many CEOs watched that part and we're like, holy shit, that's a good idea. I'm going to do that. I mean, just to undercover boss your own company. You know, she's amazing and she's not alone. When Renee Russo walks into the.

19:20 Scene, okay she walked in, I started laughing and I was like, and here's where Jeff starts paying attention and loves this movie all the way to the end. It has now become a worthwhile endeavor. Oh, I'm telling you what. The day the day that we sell this show to some network and then we're in we're in offices, there will be an in house masuse and if we're lucky, it'll be Rene Russo does this woman did she just decide that she's not gonna age? Ever?

20:02 She's I, yess so, because I knockout. I would bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that she has not had work done. She just loves there's no way she's having like the. Same person, just aging gracefully and completely amazing. Yeah, and I love It's not even it's not even a subplot really, but the idea that her and de Niro start dating kind of off to the side of the movie. You know, it's just it's it's it's just great, you know. And her ability to just understand that things happen, like when he has to work late or someone died and he has to go to funeral. She's go, all right, let's go to a funeral. She just rolls with it.

20:46 I dig I dig that about her. She is so great And this be as a Fiona, I know we're gonna don't want to step on notable scenes. But we're gonna get to one that involves her. Oh, I know your laugh. You already know what I'm talking about. But yeah, moving on with this cast uh Adam Divine as Jason and Zach Pearlman as Davis. There there are two of the young men that are starting to fall over Robert de Niro and yes take their lead from him and get take advice from him on women and fashion and everything else in between. I think they're fantastic. I mean they're fun. Especially Zach Peerlman as Davis.

21:27 Oh my gosh, he's so cute. He just he just needs to be adopted. He does. He just needs somebody to like manage him. God, what do you think of these guys? Tell me about these guys. Adam Divine. I was surprised because it seems to me, I don't know what I saw him in where he was like kind of a jerk or kind of smarmy or not trustworthy or something, but that's what I was anticipating. And he was such a nice guy. He was a great he was cool. I mean, he can't handle that girl that he's trying to, you know, date in the office, but so he's lot of boys. He is, Yeah, he is. Do you ever watch a show called The Righteous Gemstones on maxh No, Well you are missing out because it's awesome. It's hilarious. It's John Goodman, Adam Divine and of course Danny McBride. Uh. They're like a family that's like in charge of like the megachurch or like Televangelists. It's ridiculous, it's absurd and it's awesome.

22:29 You should check that one out. It's on Max. I think they're in their fifth and final season right now. But if you were thinking, if you haven't seen that, and you're thinking, Adam Divine kind of a jerk? Did you ever watch a show called Workaholics? Nop? Okay? Well, Clam said he was in Was he in Pitch Perfect? Oh? Yeah, he was like the. Was he a jerk in that? Maybe that's he was like the what. Are they called the Bella's. Yeah, the the the guys that are like the I don't know. Like the the boy band version. The boy band. Yeah, he's like the leader of that's probably what you're thinking. Okay, But he did a he did a show on Comedy Central called Workaholics where him and Anders Holme, who is also in this movie Andre's Home playing uh Anne Hathaway's husband. Matt will get to them, and there's a third guy who looks a hell of a lot like a young weird Al Yankovic. Basically, it was like it was them working like a cubicle office cubicle.

23:31 It felt like a knockoff of office Space, but still was funny on its own. But I digress. I don't know what it is about him that I thought he was gonna be a jerk, but he was. It was probably it was probably a pitch perfect then yep, I saw. I saw one of those movies and he was. He was kind of a jerk. Andrew's Home. We just mentioned him. He's playing. He's playing Matt Jule's husband. Let's tay something right now. And look, it's been out for ten years, so I'm not worried about spoilers, So I'm just gonna speak my piece about this guy, the character that is from the get go, I'm already pissed at him because I don't want to live in a world where some dowe neckbeard guy gets to be the house cat.

24:17 You know, he's kept he's the stay at home dad. To someone that looks like Anne Hathaway and has Ann Hathaway's fortune. That's just bullshit. I'm not I know. We we were discussing. We watched it again over dinner, and we were discussing, like this moron totally married up. Yeah, he's like walking around looking like you. Yeah, gonna cheat on Anne Hathaway. Like and my brain, well, my brain is like, ah, you know, give him a chance. And then she comes home and she's like, hey, she gets all snugly and wants a little something something when they're in bed, and he's like, I'm too tired, We'll do it tomorrow. I'm like, what are you out of your mind? I don't care how tired you are. Amber. It's Anne Hathaway. It's a woman that looks like Anne Hathaway. That's that's another. You know, if I had a brown flag, I'd throw the bullshit flag on that one too. No chance. I once I was.

25:25 I was once at one hundred and two fever and my girlfriend, that girlfriend took offense when I wheezed that I probably couldn't and when she got a little upset, I I clocked in what had to be done. That's right. So that's a bullshit scene right there where he's like, oh, that's up too tired, Let's wait for tomorrow. I'm like, right, like, you're gonna let Anne Hathaway go to sleep unfulfilled. But come on, no chance. The guy sucks like the character Matt Well. And I'm so sick of hearing about how he was the bread winner and he gave up his career to be a stay at home dad, which is, you know, such a less endeavor.

Let's let's get to him. I'll just tell you this because there's not movies like this don't have like a bunch of background production notes and that kind of stuff. But I will tell you this Amber if you didn't know this, uh, listeners might not know this, but this movie originally was set up at Paramount Pictures with Tina Fey and Michael Caine in the lead roles. I think about that. Think about that movie for a quick second. Does that work? It's not this movie? No, I think maybe you get away with Michael Kane, but Tina Fey because Michael.

26:53 Kane can be he could be sweet fluffy, you know, he could be Ben Whittaker. Yeah, she's not Jules Austin, no, if any, if anything, she's like one of the advisors to Jules Austin. That's telling her what she's like. She would be like Jules's boss. Like she's like the Miranda Priestley character and Devil wears Pradac. There you go, like Tina Feye does not take any shit. Yeah. Well, eventually this movie finds its way to Warner Brothers, where Faye is replaced by Reese Witherspoon. Now earlier, when I sang, I expected Jules Austin to have like a cry or a whiny breakdown, a need to be rescued, like Reese Witherspoon would have done that all over. This movie may maybe come on.

27:45 I don't know. I feel like you need to watch Legally Blonde again. I've never watched Legally Blonde. Jeffrey, Jeff just not Jeff. You keep saying you can't just repeat my name of it. You go, oh a good point. Ember sixteen, jeffs later you're right. I come on, I think you fantastic. Pleasantly amazed at how strong she is in that movie. All right, we've talked about her before. You know, she was Tracy Flick in Election, which you hated.

28:27 Yeah, well, watch Legally Blond and you'll be like, oh, well, I can see why she hated her in this other one. All right. Well, at any rate, she leaves the film due to scheduling conflicts, and a month later, exactly a month later, in Hathaway is in final negotiations to take the role. And I'm happy about that because I truly think this is this might be my new favorite in Hathaway performance. Maybe lim Is I don't know. What ew No, I don't know. I devile worst Pride. I was well, I just you know lim Is, It's French. I was just trying to get points. Mm hmm. I've seen, I've seen, I've seen, I have seen. I haven't seen her. I haven't seen her version.

29:13 Don't save yourself. Run. Don't ever suggest. Yourself that I won't. I won't go watch The Double Worst Priday again. Let's talk about some noteworthy scenes. Maybe we'll talk about the pivotal moment we're definitely going to talk about the favorite. Moment, your favorite moment. No, it's it's a different one. It's a different scene, I promise you. So let's start with this one. Jewels being told she can't run her own company. My heart's breaking for in this moment because the way she has to have this this tough exterior, and she's not like sobbing, but she's crying. And then Danira walks in to get her jacket and you can and then she's embarrassed that he he's seeing her cry and he's seeing her vulnerable.

30:02 I just I love the way she's she's handling herself, but more so, I love the way he's handling the situation. You know, quiet, head down, not paying it, he knows what's going on, but he's trying to be invisible basically until she notices him there. I don't know, what do you think of this scene? He really kind of embraces the role of intern, where he's not trying to overstep his bounds. He's not trying to be more than he is. He's trying to fit that job description the best that he can. And I love that the way the scene is written, it's just speaks to the truth of you know, if it were a man getting this news and he got mad and like slammed his fist down on the table, you know, he might be embarrassed that somebody walked in on that, but there wouldn't be anything wrong with it. Where a woman gets this news and needs an emotional release and it comes in the form of getting choked up and starting to cry a little bit. She doesn't break apart, doesn't you know, going to hysterics or anything. She just gets choked up and needs a minute. And but that's not okay because you're a woman and you're two emotional.

31:17 So she's she's doing hide that. Oh, you know, we gotta give her credit. She's doing the hero cry. She's still composed and talking and just like the the tears are coming out of the eyes without. Her like it's just frustration, you know, yeah. Well being told, you know, and just that moment, you know, it's it's it's the one moment where I almost feel like she submits when she kind of hopefully just says, can you give me CEO lessons? Like, you know, because it's not a thing, and you know, the dipshit guys like you need help blah blah blah. You know, I'm like, shut up. I don't know. I wonder who that directive was coming from. It. What's it really coming from? Andrew Rynol, it was coming from like maybe investors or something.

32:05 It's gotta be it's gotta be like maybe it's a situation where uh, you know, company opens up. You know, now there's investors or stockholders. I don't know, they don't really go into it. I don't think they need to. But all right, I know this cry and stuff. Let's let's move to a a different kind of emotional reaction. Uh, Renee Russo as the the house massuse comes over and gives been a complimentary massage as a you know, because he's you know, he did a great job getting the stain out of the jacket or whatever it was. Yes, that's sceneus hilarious. I The fist bump at the end is what really sells it.

32:47 Yes, yeah, I'll be careful here, so de Niro, you know, let's be fair, like his character probably not familiar with a female touch in in several years since his wife's passing. Renee Russo walks over, looking like Renee Russo, and she starts giving him this shoulder massage and then slides her hands down his back and then kind of gets into his hips a little bit, and how's that going? And then that's when the other guys are like noticing something something going, only. Pass him a newspaper. That's see, that's that's that's your du that's your bro looking out for you. Right, yeah, thank you.

33:29 They didn't make fun of him. They didn't know. This was not a slapstick moment. It was like, this is a real reaction that every man watching this scene is probably. I'm not going to talk about moving on or moving on. Yeah, but that fist just like Ragiel bull Ye. She walks away and the two guys on either side give him a fist bump. Like, yeah, what's up? How about how about the reveal that Ben's factory, where he built a career for himself was in fact the current residence of about that fit.

34:10 I thought the way that it was written and the way he delivered it was so beautiful, the way he just described the layout and this is where my office used to be. And I'm gonna call this, I mean, this is definitely probably the most heartwarming moment of the film. I'm gonna call this as the pivotal moment because I think this is really the real reason why he took the job, because he talks about how he knows everything about this building. You know. He tells her about the oaks in the back courtyard and she said, oh, yeah, I love those. He's like I was, I remember the day they planted him. You know, he has all the history with this building. I think I think it's the characters. It's one thing for him to lose his wife, but if he loses his wife and he loses this piece of his life also, then really who is he? You know? So I love that moment where she's and she's just soaking it all up, you know, and loving every second of it.

35:05 Yeah, she's she's kind of taken the first little steps towards appreciating the work that he's been doing, which isn't a lot because she hasn't been given him anything, but just appreciating what he's kind of standing for being there, and then starting to appreciate him as a person as he tells the story is yeah, really nice. Well, now they're bonding right like she wants him there. We talking about my favorite scene. I think the funniest scene the Ocean's eleven scene. Oh my gosh. When they said that in the car, I lost it. Did you pick up on the fact that that's the music from Oceans eleven? That's genius, It's so good. Poor Davis. Yeah, yeah, big Chill equals the intern with Anne Hathaway. Now this, this whole thing breaks them breaking into the mom's house to get the laptop to stop the email. It's just comedy gold and it's it shouldn't work in this film, because it should.

Davis jumps off open the fucking door on the top of the hood. I lost it in that scene. It was so funny. Uh yeah, if we if we didn't have a pivotal moment in this it was gonna be your favorite moment. And that would have been my favorite moment for sure. And I like that it also sets up the bar scene where she kind of takes him out to do shots. Yes, and and uh, it's a funny moment because it's kind of it's a little meta because she has that that great line. I know that it's it's an Amber Lewis line that she says where she's like, what how did guys in one generation go from Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford to and like she kind of looks at them. Yeah, because I mean there's there's there's some truth to that, like she because she's talking like, you know, guys used to be gentlemen and we used to use the word gentleman, and guys used to be tough, and now they dress like kids and they play video games and like these guys are just kind of not like yeah, that's and I was thinking, like that is so many people I know it's yeah, well I know, but.

Uh it kind of takes place through the whole movie, but the I think it's Lewis that is gonna go to jay Z's house, Yeah, and engineers like you got to change your shirt, Like why don't people ever tal their shirts in and he notices his breath and everything. And so from the beginning of the movie, he starts out in like a T shirt and sweatpants, and by the end of the movie, he's got like a nice shirt, it's tucked in, He's got the breachcase he gets. He finds the nineteen seventy three vintage briefcase on the eBay and then like Davis is like wearing a tie. He's like, actually, it's it's pens tie. He gave it to me. Yeah, but they're they're they're trying to emulate him.

39:24 But I think it's funny. It is meta that that bar scene's meta because she mentions Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford, and they were up for the nero's role. You know, Nicholson is someone that Nancy Myers has worked with several times, so they just kind of threw it in there as a fun little jat's funny. Yeah, how about the hotel talk. I was nervous about this scene. I yeah, I was a little. I wish they could have staged it differently. I feel like, I mean, I get the the you know how ironic there's a there's smoke detector goes off. We're all outside of the row, and then you know, she's like, and he's the gentleman, so he's gonna walk her back to her room. And at this point, you know, Matt's cheating, you know, her doey neck beard husband's cheating on her. Yeah, and then she's like, oh, do you want to come in? And I was just like warning went off. I was like, don't make a move on de Niro, don't ruin this movie, yeah, cause you know, and I'm like, I'm totally fine with DeNiro. I know he's safe because he's got Renee Russo at home. But you know, and then she's like, oh, you know, I know you're tired. You can lay you can lay down the bed, and you could see he's so uncomfortable doing it, and she's like, I'll get on the chair. And then she doesn't get on the chair, and he even says like I thought you're getting on the chair. She's like, well, I really want to lay down to and I was like, don't do this. But then they have a nice conversation.

40:46 You know, they break into the hotel bar, the mini bar. You know, I just feel like, you know, she probably had a suite, so that means there's a living room. They could have been like casual on the couch. Yeah, I don't know, it was it was a little bit of an alarm like I'm glad, you know, it ends. Like they're not girlfriends. It's not. Yeah, you know, look, there's there's only three ways that goes. Like, you know, it's like your your your girlfriend's their to comfort you as you talk about your marriage being you know, shitty, and he's not that. Or it's the something's gonna happen, you know, someone's gonna make a move on someone and you you don't want that to happen, and thankfully doesn't.

I think she just wanted to show how comfortable and Hathaway has become from not wanting him to have the job at all and multiple times trying to talk him out of it or saying she wants some transferred to. He works with Nancy Myers quite a bit, and I'm glad like she's She's one of those directors that likes to have the same tight group you know that she relies on, you know, But it's the same three or four actors, actresses she's always gonna work with. I dig that about her. Obviously we recommend the intern right, yes, first time watch this one. Absolutely fantastic film. Just fantas might be a top five Denia performance, definitely a top ten. Like, that's the great thing about the longevity of his career. You can kind of, you know, pick this later kind of comedy, romance kind of guy, or I have an edgy, intense kind of guy.
