Spoiler-Free Reviews: Sinners | The Accountant 2

0:00 You get more out of life when you go out to a movie. I know on with the show it has been a while, but I am happy to say welcome back to the box office. I'm Jeff Johnson and I'm Garret Gibson and for a Film. By podcast, we're here to offer you a quick spoiler free review of not one, but two films currently playing at your local theater. We've got vampires, accountants, plenty of action on tap. But before we get to it, Garin, I gotta ask you, we've seen some interesting trailers recently.

0:48 Oh yes, sir, definitely quick. Takes on a couple of trailers because I got some thoughts. I know what you did last summer. Oh now, see that one right there, just the trailer and the way it's starting. You get that very nineteen ninety six scream vibe from it. You know, you see the pool lights kick on and everything. Late scream rip off. Yep, you see that Casey Becker kind of scenario, and you're like, oh, well, hello here from the trailer. Cinema photography looks absolutely amazing, and I feel like seeing the new faces mixed in with some of the familiar faces. Seeing Freddie Prince Junior and everyone pop up at something I'm terribly excited about right there.

1:33 Strike one. We're calling it. I know what you did last summer Halloween? Did it recently? I just think it's lazy. I don't know, but I can move, I can look past it. I gotta be honest. I don't care about a single character that we like. These new kids. I just call them cannon fodder. I don't give a shit. I hope they get sliced and diced. I'm not I'm not. I'm not a fan of any of them, you know, no personality. No, no, none, whatsoever. But again, I seeing the Freddie Prince Jr. And seeing Jennifer Love Hewett those two things I'm excited about. But you're absolutely right. We have seen these kinds of things with Scream and of course the Halloween series, and it happens every couple of years we seem to get one of these. So it's it's going a little mixed batch going into it.

2:23 Legacy sequels are cool. Just just do a little work. Just just give us a cool title and bridge it to the original material. That's all I'm saying. And I just I love seeing Jay Love but that I just you know, I've got one question, what did you do last summer? It's like, come on, that's a little corny. I don't know. I'm Jerry's out, man, Jerry's out. You're excited for it, so I'm gonna be excited for it. We'll definitely get to it. Moving on though. Another one. I'm a little conflicted on Predator bad Lands. Now. See, with Predator bad Lands, there's a few takeaways from that trailer. I'm excited to see more into the Predator universe, of course, but the predator that we see, that age predator that's not wearing the mask or anything like that. I do not like how this predator looks.

3:17 Thank you, Okay. It gets so far from the source material that we had started with, and I feel like we've lost something along the way, especially after Prey, in my opinion, absolutely delivered on It. Made me absolutely excited to see this film as soon as they announced it, and then I see this trailer and it kind of doused my hopes a little bit. Pray was just awesome. We didn't see that coming, right. I'm watching the trailer for bad Lands and my first thought was, are you seriously telling me we couldn't get Dan Trachenberg to come back and do another movie because what he did was awesome. Who's doing but it is?

3:59 It's he is back. Yeah. I just don't understand the look of this Predator, Like it's just like a teenage predator, like you know, got the hair, the dreads are pulled back. It's like, yeah, he's a good guy, like the Predator is the hero of the movie. That doesn't work for me. It just doesn't. Also, it looks like he's almost got an AI handler, is what I'm picking up from the female character in that fanning. Okay, so let's let's talk something good here. Did you notice it's it's blink and you miss it? But she is clearly an artificial person. I believe they like the term. Her eyeballs have the wayland Utani logo on them, and that scene.

4:42 Now I did not notice that. I did see the I switch, but I did not pick up on that. So you got a freeze frame it and it's there. Man. So I'm excited about that because we're kind of bridging the alien Predator worlds again, so that could be kind of cool. Trailer kind of feels like Predator goes Star Wars with like. The I'm glad somebody take up. A spaceship looking things, and like the the sword that's glowing red, that's more like a dark blade. What's that? What's that one? Like? Yeah, dark sabor, Yeah, thank you. Jerry's out. Jerry's out. But I want to be excited for it. That one I want to be excited for But uh, like I said, they just kind of doused my hopes and dreams with that first teaser trailer. So hopefully we get a little bit more and I'll get a little more excited once we get a little closer.

5:32 The Predator has such an iconic look. He was it was scary as I'll get out in nineteen eighty seven with practical effects and this cgi thing that's going on, no, no, nothing, and. The dark eyes looking all that. It's killing me. It is, it's it's hurting a little bit. But let's let's talk about something. Let's talk about one more and then we'll get we'll get to our movies. This new uh Jordan Peel thing him. I don't know about you, but we're sitting there. I'm like, this is gonna be one badass football movie. Until it's not it's it goes real sci fi horror, like thirty seconds into the trailer, right, what's going on with this this trailer?

6:18 This trailer. At first it kicks off, We're sitting there in the theater. I'm thinking we're getting a Gatorade commercial or something like that the way it's playing out. As soon as Jordan Peele's name pops up, the music changes. The whole like music, everything kicks in and you can start hearing Marlon Wayne's voice as the trailer is going. Yeah, and that movie looks absolutely insane. It's on par with the rest of the Jordan Peele universe that he's got going on out there. And I've got to tell you, I am terribly excited to see Marlon Wayne's performance in this because just the whole lead up, during the entire trailer, it gives me chills, the way he's speaking, and it just seems like it might be one of those roles of a lifetime for him, Like this branch into like a horror, sci fi kind of flick, and I'm all for it.

7:18 I think it's gonna be like the surprise hit of the season because it's one of those trailers that you are locked in you're loving what you're watching, but you don't understand what's going on, and it's it's a good teaser because like, I'm like, I don't know what it's about. I know there's football, and I know there's murder and some other weird shit, but other than that, I'm at a loss. But I'm I'm ready to I'm ready to learn, right. Yeah, anytime I see Jordan Peele's name attached to project like that, I instantly get excited. Well, me too, and uh, I'll tell you another one, not that you know, kind of revealing my hand here, but I'm excited. Let's talk about Sinners.

8:00 We gotta stop them, Smoke, We gotta get them before they get away. Ain't you a soldier? Didn't you just shoot two men for touching your truck? You just gotta stay through the night and what then kill the whole town, turn everybody to monsters. Now, I ain't gonna talk. They're I don't know what. Is Sinners ready in theaters? Tan oh? Now, Sinners is one of those masterpieces. I'm gonna say, Michael B. Jordan knocked this one out of the park. Him playing the twin brothers, Smoke and Stack are absolutely just phenomenal role. The fact that he plays so well off of himself, and this with a newer actor, Miles Canton.

8:51 Okay, let's let's talk Miles Canton. He's playing Sammy Moore. He's the young cousin to the Twin Brothers. It's his feature film debut. Said his audition tape was impressive because it looked like he was in his basement with the lights out. But he had a quote once in a lifetime voice. I mean, the kid knocked it out. Of the park, right he did. I could not have been more impressed. Rarely do you get a film debut by someone that is so extraordinary. I feel like his voice in the scenes where he is singing and playing the guitar, he kills it. Oh he does. He does. It takes you back to like nineteen forties nineteen fifties blues musicians, and I think he fits that part beautifully.

9:40 I think it was cast like one hundred percent accurate. There's no one in mind that could have played that role better than him, and that kid killed it. I'm watching Miles Cannon and I'm excited to get home and look up his other work and see, like what else I can watch him in, and then you find out it's his future film debut. There is nothing else to watch him in. This is it And this guy has got a very bright future head. Uh, someone who's always had a bright future. I've loved I've loved him since Frida at Lights. But uh, you talked about Michael B. Jordan. He's playing twin brothers here. What'd you think of his performance as as Smoke? His performance as Smoke is one of those things where he is the calm, calculated and rational thinking brother out of the two. And I think the chemistry that he had and I'm I'm probably gonna butcher a name, but woon me. Yes, Okay, I'm glad I didn't completely butcher, but the chemistry between her and him on set through that entire film, their storyline to him, it's it's a thing of beauty. And how he is truly his brother's keeper in that film to kind of keep him on the level.

11:00 Is Yeah, he's he's doing it awesome. As as a Smoke, another great actor. What do you think of Michael B. Jordan as a stack? Well, you know, Michael B. Jordan's one of those guys that you can throw him into this role, and uh, you see it every now and then to where like you'll get to Tom Hardy in Legend, to where he's playing the Kray Brothers, and I think this is on par with that. I I feel like if you take the movie Legend and mix it with From Dust Till Dawn, this is the outcome of that film right. There, and good call, good call. I think they absolutely nailed it. Uh. Now, his performance is stack and the way he plays with so well with Mile Canton. Why either in the scenes driving in the car, it's how.

11:52 About how about taking the drag off the cigarette and passing it to himself? That that's things. Yeah, that's it's good. You mentioned women musakus as Annie. I've never seen this woman in a film before, but like Miles Kitton, we need more of her. We need to see more of this woman. Phenomenal actress. Right absolutely killed the role. Uh yeah, just perfect. Yeah. She like a kind of like a a voodoo priestess, a kind of a witch, but a good I don't know. I didn't know what was really going on there. I just knew I liked it. I felt like there maybe was more of a backstory there at some point in time and maybe they get it out of there unfortunately. But what we did see of her, and like the past and everything that the fans will get to experience when they go see this movie or they stream this film, they're just gonna be blown away with her performance.

12:55 Yeah, Garrett, I don't know where Delroy Lindo has been, but I'm sure glad he's back. He's here playing Delta. Just fun to watch man, just fun. This is a role that again that del Roy Linde is someone that I've not seen in a very long time. But this is someone that you know in the eighties, nineties, early two thousands, was just any role he was in, you believe that role And my favorite role, Todate is still him opposite of mel Gibson and Ransom there it is, Yeah, fantastic Ransom. Yeah, he is an amazing actor, and I feel like any role with him as a detective it's just automatically a grand slam.

13:40 Yeah. But he he's like the old he's the old blues guy in town. He's the old blues drunkard guy that's you know, spent all his money on women and wine. Yeah. See now him again with Miles canton I and we always come back to this, Miles Canon. Those two together is just extraordinary. You get someone that's been in the game for so long and this is the other one's first movie, and you can't tell where one stops and the other begins because I'm with you play so well with one another. Yeah. Now, Hailey Steinfeld, she's playing Mary. We've watched her grow up on screen over the years. She's got a foothold in the MCU right now. But I think her performance in Centers is her arrival as a star because she is. She's a little she's a couple of parts, crazy ex girlfriend, she's a good girl, she's a bad girl, she's a villain, she's a hero. She's getting to She's going to do everything in this movie, right.

14:42 She absolutely is. So this is one of the roles that I was terribly excited to see when I saw the cast list. Originally, I was like, Harley Steinfeld, why does that name sound so familiar? And it goes back to her true grit days, when of course Jeff Ridge is for that being like one of the starting points of your career. You know you're going to be a very talented individual getting to work with the likes of that, and I believe she's learned a thing or two from working with all these greats over time. She's an adult now, you know she is. Yeah, and she brought all that knowledge to this film.

15:23 Like you said, she portrays the villain, the hero, the good guy, the bad guy. He does everything just so well in this film. I couldn't recommend her any higher, honestly. Garrett, you know as well as I do. You can't care about your hero if you don't care about your villain. And Jack O'Connell playing the leader of the vampires, this guy Remick. How fun is this guy? Now? Jack O'Connell is Remick. That is one of those people that is such a charismatic villain that as the film goes, you actually start to like the villain a lot.

16:06 You're always rooting for the good guys, don't You are wrong? But jack O'Connell, like I said, the charismatic nature of him in this role. Just the simple things like the singing and the dancing in this movie, it's. River dancing vampires. I'm in, man, Yes, I'm. In one hundred percent. In singing old Irish folklore songs. It's just I didn't know what to think about that. I really didn't. It still gives me chills just to think about this scene. Just how far he gets into this role. It's him opposite of Michael B. Jordan is nothing short of just magical.

16:48 I'm gonna tell you. Now, I'm never gonna root against Michael B. Jordan. I'm definitely not gonna root against two Michael B Jordan's. But man, it's just fun to see Remick. Just try getting that church, that old, that old uh, that old slaughterhouse thing that they're they're hold up in. It's it's a good time, man, It's a definitely good time. One last guy. I know, we got to move on because this is we're trying to be spoil we got we gotta be spoiler free, and we got we got two movies to talk about. But uh, I loved the little the little add on at the end, Little Easter Egg. We got it with Sammy as an old UH musician at that point, played by Buddy Guy. He's this is one of the all time great blues guitarists and uh several musicians cite him as an inspiration. Garrett. I think you've probably heard about a couple of these guys. Uh, I'm talking about Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan just to name a few. These are these are guys that looked up to Buddy Buddy Guy, and it's just it's cool, Like, I love the fact that Ryan Coogler can take someone like this, one of the all time great blues musicians and and and put him in a movie like Sinners Love It.

18:01 I think you're right. And I'm going to tell you right now, if they make a movie about Buddy Guy growing up younger Buddy Guy, I think I know who I'm picking. And Miles, just right now, go ahead and do it now. Uh, anyone's still the show for you. Any any breakout performance in this one. I absolutely love Michael B. Jordan. I'm going against myself with this one because his role was phenomenal. I don't think he did anything wrong in this movie. I don't think he had one misstep in this entire film. But I've got to give it to my young man, Miles Canton. It's hard not to give it to him, but I gotta be honest. I'm still I'm I'm looking at Woodman Masaka as Annie, and I'm just excited to see her in more, more movies moving forward. So not about no, there's no wrong answer there. Honestly, with a cast like this, there's no wrong answer. I think it's to say, not a single bad performance in this movie, right.

19:01 Not at all. Brother So this is Cougler's first film since Fruitville Station to be shot on film. He went back to film sixteen millimeter film. Go back and check out our Ryan Kugler episode we discussed Fruitville Station. Dave and I did listeners if you missed that one. But I think that I think it lends itself to the overall look the texture. This film's got a texture to it. Would you would you agree because we're in the nineteen thirties, But it's just all the colors are so rich. They absolutely are. And you can tell, especially with the brothers smoking stack as film starts. You know, as soon as we get to them. The ones got the blue accents to the sudes, the other ones got the red accents and just plays so well with that sixty millimeter film.

19:50 And I think Ryan Kugler went the right way with this one. I've gotta tell you. Plenty of action, plenty of horror. I think, just the right touch of comedy, like anytime you get comedy that's not it's not like on the page, like the audience will laugh at this, but it's just unintentional, so much better, I think. I think you're right, brother. I want to talk about the music. We have to talk about the music a little bit. Ludwig Gordonson's score is unabashedly brilliant, heavily influenced by Robert Johnson, but he's thrusting hints of metal, hip hop, ragtime and the Mississippi Blues. I'm going back for another viewing just because I want to listen to this movie. And you know, I almost I don't want to spoil it, but you know the scene I'm talking about, because you and I both looked at each other. We're like, what's what's happening right now?

20:38 What's going on? I don't know if we were prepared for that. I don't think the audience was prepared for that. Honestly, I don't think they were. And I've got to tell you, I've seen this film a second time since you and I have. Went wow, okay, you've already got back and. I was blown away so much by the performances that the second time through, I could go back and watch these little subtle hints and things of that nature, and the scene you're talking about it still stands out extraordinarily well. The second minding Yes. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler. He cites from Dust Till Dawn and The Faculty, both directed by Robert Riguez, as his biggest influences for Sinners. I think you definitely see both those movies in here, maybe a little bit more from Dust Till Dawn than The Faculty. But I also don't feel like he's just cribbing from it. It feels like a nice like homage.

21:35 Would you agree, I would one hundred percent agree with that. Yeah, it's got the field to it, but it is its own separate entity. So now, if you're trying to set up a movie night and you're just trying to run a couple of flicks that run great together, I would say from Dust Till Dawn and Sinners are a great pair for you. Now I came across this, I have to share it. You know, when we talk about the pacing or the editing of this film, listen to this. You're gonna gonna blow your mind. Kogler cites Metallica's nineteen eighty eight hit one from the band's Injustice for All album as the basis for this film's pacing, saying, quote, I wanted the film to have the simplicity and profound nature of a Delta blues song, but I wanted it to have the contrast, variation and the inevitability of a great Metallica song like one.

22:32 It starts off with almost like an easy listening solo, you know what I'm saying, and then it just goes badshit insane in a way you could never have seen coming. At the same time, it feels like it's getting to go there all along. And Garrett I found out that Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich is actually credited as a drummer in the film scoring orchestra. Really, now, that is a bit of information I did not know, But for that to be the pacing for this film, it makes me love. Would you ever expect Ryan Coogler to use a Metallica song as like the basis of how he's gonna pace a film? That's just that's that's awesome, dude.

23:13 That is something that only he could do right there, It's yeah, he could done no wrong with that. I've gotta tell you all right. Well, listen, uh, Garrett, I know this is your first time on back to the box office. This is the point where we gotta tell our listeners whether they should see it, stream it, or skip it. Obviously, I say see it on an Imax screen this weekend, see it twice because you got too Michael to be Jordan's You've already seen it twice. So I where are you at on this one? I say you see it on the big screen. And then once we go ahead and get the reis for it, you go ahead and stream it. You go ahead and by yourself a Blu ray copy of this film. Oh yeah, it's two thumbs up for me by far.

23:54 Well, Michael B. Jordan and Michael B. Jordan aren't the only brothers to catch on the big screen. Currently, let's talk about Affleck and Burnhal in the long awaited sequel, The Accountant Part two on April twenty five. The Accountant is back, but this time he brought his brother. That's him. It's been a minute. Do you like puzzles? You can do the talking jacky pants here. Wants to scrap. My brother wasn't having a good time tonight, but now he wrote, is there anything better than punching somebody in the face? Who's got a.

All right, So Ben Affleck as Christian Wolf, Garrett, I get that Chris is evolving and making an attempt to seem more normal to those around him. But did you notice there's like a slight inflection in his voice this time out, Like I almost wonder if he's still developing the character. Did you pick up on that at all? I did pick up on it. It doesn't sound like the same Christian Wolf we got in the first film. No, Yeah, the dialogue it's still written the exact same way, but just that way delivered. Yeah, just the way it's delivered. I don't know if it's something they're workshopping, they're trying to find that exact character. That's something that they didn't come across in the first film, So it was different.

25:23 I was not expecting that going into the movie. Yeah, I just I feel like in the first film we got like Ben Affleck is just playing a cold, emotionless Ben Affleck, and in this time out, he's he's almost he's almost trying to play a character of that character. Like the voice is just there's a subtle thing about it that's just a little often. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know that I like it. I love the character, I love the character in this one, but I just don't know that I like it. I didn't know if that was me. I didn't know if I don't know if other listeners have picked up on it, or if you had picked up on it. But just something a little bit off about the performance this time. Just a little bit off here, You're right. At first, it was driving me crazy because, okay, you know, we get into it and we're hearing him talk and Burnhal talk back and forth, and it's like, what the hell was he doing with his voice? Yeah?

26:20 He is? He doing a bad impersonation of what he was doing in the first movie. I don't know. I'm not sure. I need to see it again maybe to really get a handle on it. But how about the comic relief of this film, which is John Burnhal playing his brother Braxton. Now John Burnhal as Braxton. I've got to say, there's so many scenes in this film where I believe he just stole it and it's it's that likable from him, and it's a it's a side of John Burnhal we don't necessarily get because a lot recently we get him as the Punisher, and you know, you don't get a whole lot of them in the first film. But what you do is he's a very serious character. In this time around, we get to see the brotherly love between almost yeah, and it just brings out that little bit of humor in John Burenthal. And I think he ran with it and he absolutely killed it. Man.

27:19 Two things that he's doing in this movie. He's being a little more sensitive than what we're used to seeing can play, and he's definitely being a lot more bratty than we've ever seen him play. And listen, you you grew up with brothers I did. This is what a brother you know, This is what a relationship for brothers looks like. I mean, they nailed it, man, I believe these guys are brothers. Honestly, I think you're I think you're hundred percent right here between Ben Affleck and John Burenthal. I don't know if they spent like a lot more time like preparing for this one or whatever. You would have thought they went to summer camp, man. You really would have, because the bond between them is so believable. Like I don't know if they stayed in character or what it was, but wherever they were, wherever they were practicing for this role, they were inseparable. And yeah, you can tell that in this film. It just it spells it out for you. This this is Brothers right here.

28:22 Yeah, the whole, the whole, the whole Gang's back. Though pretty much happy to see Cynthia Adi Robinson returning as the Treasury head of the Treasury Department Mary Beth Medina garrett I dig that she's experiencing the same doubts about her success as as JK. Simmons character Ray King did in the first movie. I would have to agree with you here. It's one of those things where she starts questioning herself and it's do I belong in the office that I'm in? It was my career essentially just handed to me. She's got all of these doubts that Raymond King was dealing with in the first film, and I think it's eating her life.

29:03 It's giving her that drive to go ahead and try and solve this without any of their help. She doesn't want to use their help, but she's you know, it's kind of forced to, right. Yeah, because she's forced into a corner. There's you know, of course, some sort of child trafficking going on in this film, so you know, she ends up taking their help. But it's one of those things where she is so conflicted throughout this by dealing with the two of them that she starts to question herself. And I think that just builds the moral of her character and relates so much with that JK. Simmons character from the first film, and it just made me fall in love with her character even more.

29:47 Yeah. DII Robinson doing a fantastic job here holding her own against both Ben Affleck and John Barenthal. Half this movie, we're gonna see the three of them on the screen together. She is holding her own and then some and uh, I just I love I love that she's back. We mentioned JK. Simmons as Ray King, it's pretty much a cameo performance. Uh, if we're being honest and really wanted more, man, I told you like, going into this one, I was like, I know he's I know he's killed immediately we see that in the trailer. I just hope we're gonna get plenty of him in like flashbacks. And if there's one one thing I would have asked for this movie from this movie, I would ask for a little more JK. How about you?

30:28 I would have to say the exact same thing, honestly, because JK. Simmons in the first film, I believe we get enough of his backstory, but I don't believe we got enough of those trainable teachable moments that he would have had. And I feel like, even though of course we all saw it in the trailer that he weaves the note to the account and the account, I feel like if we would have had more of him and a Die Robinson at the gainning of this and then they do like, hey, two years later, this is where we pick up. I would have been absolutely okay with this like ten to fifteen minute time frame that they could have just added to that, and I think it would have added a lot more value to her character and the growth and development of her character.

31:18 Yeah, give me one more scene where it's a flashback and he's he's he's putting her in the chair, you know, and she's not she doesn't know that she's ready for it, and he's like I was. I wasn't ready for it, but you'd be great and like, you know, wishing him well, and you know she like, you know, because he's like a private investigator. He's retired but now he's a private investigator. That would have been kind of cool. I would have liked that. But oh well, one more person I want to bring up, Daniella Pineda playing a nice. Hey I believe so nice? Yep, yeah, no, no stranger to big action packed franchise movies. I think the last time we seen her, she was she was running from dinosaurs. She played the character Zaia in the Jurassic Jassic World movies. I think she was in.

32:02 I know she's in two of them. I don't know about all three, but I know she's in two of them. Yeah, I want to say it was the second and third if I'm not mistaken there. Yeah her. Listen, this could have easily been a cliched character. You know, the the assassin who you know, you get amnesia and all of a sudden you get to all these super skill sets and then now you're lone wolf assassin. It's an awesome character. I'm gonna ahead and say, like, you know, as far as stealing the show, breakout performances, Yes, this is Berenthal's movie, but she's a breakout performance here. I'm ready for the account in part three, but I'm hoping for a spinoff about her character.

32:42 I think you hit the nail right on the head there. Her performance in this film is something that I wish we could have gotten other films like at john Wick or something like that, to where they build these characters up and I feel like they did it just right, and the amount of time that they had, the amount of development they put into this character, the amount of feeling that you get for this character as the film goes, and just her being an utter badass in this is It's one of those things where you don't want to miss the second she's on screen, whether it's just sitting there talking politely with JK. Simmons or if we're flashing forward or her just messing some people up all four.

33:31 I like the the CCTV coverage of her in the hospital, like going on Sarah Connor on the on the Guard and the doctor like that saw the Man she is. As far as bad performances, I mean, this is a lot of great performances here. If there's one person I'm gonna single out, though, the uh the bad guy he is. He's got the henchman you know who kind of dials it up just a little too much at the end when he's trying to round the kids up on the school bus and get him off the school bus. It's like, so settle down, guy, just just just a touch. I've gotta say, you're right about this one, dude. It's one of those things where I did not believe him as the main henchman for this big time Mike Maddie, and it's like, I, I don't want to say he underacted.

35:10 Feel like him trying to take it to ten made it come out as it too. And again he's just not believable for me. I couldn't get behind the character and ultimately the main villain in the movie. I couldn't get behind that either. It's just nah, well he let's be ho. He's like an eighties cliche bad guy. You know, you're right, it's it's bad for no reason. He's yeah, Craig T. Nelson from Turner and Who. Let's be honest. He's got you know. It's like, well, let's give him a clever you know, let's give him a creepy catch catchphrase or a vibe. You know. He he sings, he sings, he whistles, pop goes the weasel, which kind of up the movie. It's just weird, strange thing to do. Yeah, yeah, listen, we're going We're going down a different path, I feel like, but uh, you know what this this movie also kind of takes a different path because nine years ago, the excitement of the accountant was immersing yourself into Christian Wolf's world and discovering his skill sets. Right, it was a borderline thriller. This time it's more of a road movie meets buddy cop story. But I still think it works. It really works, you know. I know your thoughts, like, it's this one's fun, right.

36:21 It's it's a lot of fun. Honestly, It's one of those things, like you said. The first one, it's so cool and calculated, and Ben Affleck's character so distant with his brother hasn't seen him in over a decade, and you don't get to see too much of anything other than him being precise, and this one you get to see that side that he probably had and with Jeffrey Oh my goodness, yeah, jeff Yeah, Jeffrey Daber. I don't know how it swept my mind, but how he had those moments in that first film. You kind of want more of that because it humanizes the character, and with him and John Burenthal in this film, I think that is just hit right on the head. I think it humanizes the character. You get to have some really fun moments with him, and you get to see John Burnhal's blood pressure go up and several scenes which is an absolute annoyance with his brother, and you're it's that Buddy Cup film.

37:28 I'm gonna be careful here because no, I don't want to spoil anything, but I really dig what Justine, you know, the British voice. I really dig what she's up to back at the Harvard Neuroscience Institute, and you know exactly what I'm talking about. Man, that was an excellent reveal as far as moving this story forward. Just could not be happier with what they what they're doing there. Honestly, I was so curious about the handler from the first film, and I was wondering if if we get any closure on exactly who that person is, because you almost get like a hit man of the aged forty seven vibe from this. You're like, who's his handler? Where is she? What is this? And then they do the reveal and you're like, no freaking way, this is too cool.

38:17 It's too cool. Yeah, And then to come up with, you know, an extension of that in this movie, even cooler, and I'm excited, like, where are we going to go with that story? That's what I'm looking forward to. So I think it's safe to say Gavin O'Connor knows these characters, which is why Affleck and Bernthrow are so believable as brothers. The action, it's slick, it's fun, explosive, and let's be honest, his use of a well placed freeze frame is absolutely hilarious in this movie. He gets away with this so many times in this film, and it just whether it's the bar scene or whatever it may be, you're just like, I love.

38:57 This man, Yeah, I love it. As far as the pacing, you know, again, Connor isn't trying to make a tense thriller with some action this time out. He's making a full blown action film with some tense moments but also plenty of comedic beats. The movie reacquaints us with these characters and then hits the gas for like another ninety minutes or so, and it's all just pure fun. I feel like you hit the nail right on the head there. Again. It's one of those things that once this film gets rolling, it never stops. Once the brothers get together, and meet up with Cynthia die Robinson. You're just gonna have so much fun, whether it's trying to solve this case, the brotherly humor between them, or the NonStop action that we get there and those last few sequences is just amazing.

I would say, go ahead and put on your best pair of Forcet Gump shoes, run out to the theater and check this film out. Good, good inside joke there.
